Apoptosis is a natural stimulus of IL6R shedding and contributes to the proinflammatory trans-signaling function of neutrophils

TLDR
It is demonstrated that IL6R is shed from apoptotic human neutrophils, which is relevant to the control of acute inflammation, where transition from the initial neutrophil infiltration to a more sustained population of mononuclear cells is essential for the resolution of the inflammatory process.

Journal ArticleDOI

The pro- and anti-inflammatory properties of the cytokine interleukin-6

TL;DR: It turns out that regenerative or anti-inflammatory activities of interleukin-6 are mediated by classic signaling whereas pro-inflammatory responses of interLEukin -6 are rather mediated by trans-signaling.

IL-6 as a keystone cytokine in health and disease

TL;DR: The effect of IL-6 on innate and adaptive immunity and the possible advantages of various antagonists ofIL-6 are discussed and how the immunobiology of IL -6 may inform clinical decisions is considered.

The ADAM metalloproteinases.

TL;DR: The ADAM family are fundamental to many control processes in development and homeostasis, and unsurprisingly they are also linked to pathological states when their functions are dysregulated, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, asthma, Alzheimer’s disease.

Phagocyte partnership during the onset and resolution of inflammation

TL;DR: The mechanisms involved in the intimate partnership of phagocytes during each progressive phase of the inflammatory response are highlighted and the potential therapeutic relevance of these interactions are highlighted.

IL-6 Trans-Signaling via the Soluble IL-6 Receptor: Importance for the Pro-Inflammatory Activities of IL-6

TL;DR: Evidence that IL-6 trans-signaling is pro-inflammatory whereas classic IL- 6 signaling via the membrane bound IL-7R is needed for regenerative or anti-inflammatory activities of the cytokine is reviewed.

Cleavage of structural proteins during the assemble of the head of bacterio-phage T4

U. K. Laemmli
- 01 Jan 1970 -
TL;DR: Using an improved method of gel electrophoresis, many hitherto unknown proteins have been found in bacteriophage T4 and some of these have been identified with specific gene products as mentioned in this paper.

Points of control in inflammation

TL;DR: The non-inflammatory state does not arise passively from an absence of inflammatory stimuli; rather, maintenance of health requires the positive actions of specific gene products to suppress reactions to potentially inflammatory stimuli that do not warrant a full response.

Molecular mechanisms of caspase regulation during apoptosis

TL;DR: The present understanding of caspase regulation during apoptosis is described and biochemical and structural studies have led to important advances in understanding the underlying molecular mechanisms of cispase regulation.
