Towards an object-relations theory of consumerism: The aesthetics of desire and the unfolding materiality of social life

Growth, Conservation, and the Necessity of New Alliances

TL;DR: There is no substitute for direct protection of species and ecosystems as mentioned in this paper. But unless growth in human numbers and material consumption is checked, direct protection will become impossible, and unless a social force can bring to bear the necessary pressure to change government, corporate, and individual behavior, conservation biologists can and should play a role in mobilizing support for conservation through better informed and more carefully crafted outreach.

Work, Self and Society: After Industrialism

Journal ArticleDOI

What is critical urban theory

Neil Brenner
- 01 Jun 2009 -
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors interpret critical urban theory with reference to four mutually interconnected elements: its theoretical character; its reflexivity; its critique of instrumental reason; and its emphasis on the disjuncture between the actual and the possible.
Journal ArticleDOI
