TLDR
The 13th St Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference (2013) Expert Panel reviewed and endorsed substantial new evidence on aspects of the local and regional therapies for early breast cancer, supporting less extensive surgery to the axilla and shorter durations of radiation therapy.

Differences in biological features of breast cancer between Caucasian (Italian) and African (Tanzanian) populations

TL;DR: The results show that histopathological and biomolecular characteristics in Tanzanian and Italian breast cancers differ substantially, and the high frequency of poorly differentiated, ER-negative, highly proliferating tumors, together with advanced stage at presentation, could be the main prognostic factors linked to the high mortality rates for breast cancer in the African population.
Journal ArticleDOI

Liquid biopsy for breast cancer using extracellular vesicles and cell-free microRNAs as biomarkers.

TL;DR: New findings about c-miRNA and their potential as biomarkers for BC diagnosis, prognosis, and therapy are discussed and the impact of limitations associated with the standardization of analysis techniques and methods on the implementation of these biomarkers in the clinical setting is addressed.

Intravoxel incoherent motion magnetic resonance imaging for breast cancer: A comparison with benign lesions and evaluation of heterogeneity in different tumor regions with prognostic factors and molecular classification

TL;DR: The IVIM parameters of tumor, tumor edge and peritumor tissues in various subtypes of breast cancer may be useful for differentiation of Breast cancer subtypes and to assess the invasive extent of the tumors.

TL;DR: The ability to integrate information across platforms provided key insights into previously defined gene expression subtypes and demonstrated the existence of four main breast cancer classes when combining data from five platforms, each of which shows significant molecular heterogeneity.

Strategies for subtypes—dealing with the diversity of breast cancer: highlights of the St Gallen International Expert Consensus on the Primary Therapy of Early Breast Cancer 2011

TL;DR: Broad treatment recommendations are presented, recognizing that detailed treatment decisions need to consider disease extent, host factors, patient preferences, and social and economic constraints.
Journal ArticleDOI

Axillary dissection vs no axillary dissection in women with invasive breast cancer and sentinel node metastasis: A randomized clinical trial

TL;DR: Among patients with limited SLN metastatic breast cancer treated with breast conservation and systemic therapy, the use of SLND alone compared with ALND did not result in inferior survival, and overall survival was the primary end point, with a noninferiority margin of a 1-sided hazard ratio of less than 1.3 indicating thatSLND alone is noninherited.
