TLDR
The 13th St Gallen International Breast Cancer Conference (2013) Expert Panel reviewed and endorsed substantial new evidence on aspects of the local and regional therapies for early breast cancer, supporting less extensive surgery to the axilla and shorter durations of radiation therapy.

Interobserver Variability of Ki-67 Measurement in Breast Cancer.

TL;DR: In tumors with hot spots, the range of distribution in Ki-67 categories was decreased with hot spot method and in TMA platform, and restricting the measurement area yielded lower interobserver variability.

Molecular essence and endocrine responsiveness of estrogen receptor-negative, progesterone receptor-positive, and HER2-negative breast cancer

TL;DR: An immunohistochemistry-based method was developed that could determine the molecular essence of ER−/PgR+ using three markers, TFF1, CK5, and EGFR, and it was found that either PAM50-defined or immunohISTochemistry-defined basal-like ER−-/Pg-R+ cases have a lower endocrine therapy sensitivity score compared with luminal-like cases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Assessment of the Ki67 labeling index: a Japanese validation ring study.

TL;DR: The Ki67 labeling index measured by 6 pathologists without method standardization was in fair to good agreement, and the most pertinent reason for discrepancy in scores seemed to be the selection of the area for counting and the quality of nuclear staining.
Journal ArticleDOI

Metabolic syndrome-breast cancer link varies by intrinsic molecular subtype

TL;DR: It has emerged that BMI is weakly associated to Luminal A breast cancers in this case series, whereas visceral obesity and insulin resistance are likely to be linked to more aggressive breast cancer subtypes.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Role of MicroRNA as Clinical Biomarkers for Breast Cancer Surgery and Treatment.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors outline the clinical utility of miRNA expression profiles in informing breast cancer prognosis, predicting response to treatment strategies as well as their potential as therapeutic targets to enhance treatment modalities in the era of precision oncology.

Comprehensive molecular portraits of human breast tumours

TL;DR: The ability to integrate information across platforms provided key insights into previously defined gene expression subtypes and demonstrated the existence of four main breast cancer classes when combining data from five platforms, each of which shows significant molecular heterogeneity.

Strategies for subtypes—dealing with the diversity of breast cancer: highlights of the St Gallen International Expert Consensus on the Primary Therapy of Early Breast Cancer 2011

TL;DR: Broad treatment recommendations are presented, recognizing that detailed treatment decisions need to consider disease extent, host factors, patient preferences, and social and economic constraints.
Journal ArticleDOI

Axillary dissection vs no axillary dissection in women with invasive breast cancer and sentinel node metastasis: A randomized clinical trial

TL;DR: Among patients with limited SLN metastatic breast cancer treated with breast conservation and systemic therapy, the use of SLND alone compared with ALND did not result in inferior survival, and overall survival was the primary end point, with a noninferiority margin of a 1-sided hazard ratio of less than 1.3 indicating thatSLND alone is noninherited.
