Recent developments in the fire retardancy of polymeric materials
TLDR
In this paper, the authors highlight the ecological impacts of using conventional flame retardants, thereby signifying the necessity to use eco-friendly agents, and explore the use of various nanofillers for this purpose, compare their performance with traditional systems, provide insights into different testing standards and combustion mechanisms, modelling aspects of the combustion behavior, and identify novel approaches that could be considered for meeting the fire safety standards with ecofriendly materials.About:

Synergistic influence of halogenated flame retardants and nanoclay on flame performance of high density polyethylene and wood flour composites
TL;DR: In this article, high density polyethylene and wood flour (HDPE/WF) composites containing three flame modifiers (FMs) (i.e., two fire retardants: 1,2-bis(pentabromophenyl) and ethylene bis(tetrabromophthalimide), and one nanoclay), maleic anhydride grafted polyethylenes (MAPE) and other processing aids were prepared through twin-screw extrusion, and their properties were characterized.

Cure kinetics and thermal stability of maleimide modified epoxy TGIC/CPE powder coating system
TL;DR: In this paper, the curing kinetics of the modified triglycidyl isocyanurate (TGIC) with various content of N-phenylmaleimido group and carboxylated polyester (CPE) were investigated using dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC).

The influence of poorly-/well-dispersed organo-montmorillonite on interfacial compatibility, fire retardancy and smoke suppression of polypropylene/intumescent flame retardant composite system.
TL;DR: In this article , a linear polymeric charring agent (PEPAPC) was synthesized via the nucleophilic substitution reaction, and then embedded into polypropylene (PP) substrate to improve the fire retardancy and anti-dripping performance.

Accumulation and fragmentation of plastic debris in global environments.
TL;DR: Global plastics production and the accumulation of plastic waste are documented, showing that trends in mega- and macro-plastic accumulation rates are no longer uniformly increasing and that the average size of plastic particles in the environment seems to be decreasing.

Peterson,L. Poellinger,Stephen Safe,D. Schrenk,D. Tillitt,Mats Tysklind,Maged Younes,F. Waern,T. Zacharewski +23 more
TL;DR: It was concluded that the TEF concept is still the most plausible and feasible approach for risk assessment of halogenated aromatic hydrocarbons with dioxinlike properties.

An overview of brominated flame retardants in the environment.
TL;DR: In this paper, the current state of knowledge is reviewed and areas for further research recommended to improve future monitoring and risk assessment efforts, and the authors suggest that the occurrence of high concentrations of certain PBDE isomers may be sufficient to elicit adverse effects in some wildlife.
