Macromolecules dissolved in a lamellar lyotropic mesophase

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that the polymer-containing lamellar phase exists as a stable thermodynamic phase up to a poly(ethylene oxide) concentration of 7%; thus one-fourth of the water of the mesophase can be replaced with PEO.
Journal ArticleDOI

SAXS study of chain-like structures formed by magnetic nanoparticles

TL;DR: In this paper, a magnetic core and an organic shell were prepared by thermal decomposition of an iron carbonyl complex in the presence of oleic acid, and the nanoparticles were then dispersed in cyclohexane to form a stable ferrofluid.
Journal ArticleDOI

A Method for Determining Transmembrane Helix Association and Orientation in Detergent Micelles Using Small Angle X-Ray Scattering

TL;DR: Solution small angle x-ray scattering can be used to study the association of transmembrane proteins solubilized in detergent micelles to studying the association and interactions of other membrane proteins.
Journal ArticleDOI

Solution Conformation of Wild-Type and Mutant IgG3 and IgG4 Immunoglobulins Using Crystallohydrodynamics: Possible Implications for Complement Activation

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that the Fab regions are directed away from the plane of the Fc region and with a long extended hinge region in between, which may explain the ability of the IgG4S331P mutant to activate complement in stark contrast to the wild-type IgG 4 molecule which is devoid of this activity.

Statistical Mechanics of Fluid Mixtures

TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical potentials of the components of gas mixtures and liquid solutions are obtained in terms of relatively simple integrals in the configuration spaces of molecular pairs, and the molecular pair distribution functions appearing in these integrals are investigated in some detail, in their dependence upon the composition and density of the fluid.
Book

The optical principles of the diffraction of x-rays.

TL;DR: In this paper, Bragg et al. describe the Optik der R6ntgenstrahlen in Raumgitter and leitet damit fiber zu den experimentellen Methoden and Ergebn]ssen, die den folgenden B~nden vorbehalten bleiben.

Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering

TL;DR: The neighbourhood of the direct beam is, for a variety of reasons, easily obscured by scattered radiation and insufficient collimation, so that special measures such as very long film-specimen distances or focusing crystal monochromators have been used for obtaining satisfactory photographs.
