Fully reduced ribonuclease A does not expand at high denaturant concentration or temperature

TL;DR: The dimensions of a denatured protein, fully reduced ribonuclease A (r-RNase A) have been measured using synchrotron-based small angle X-ray scattering and the polypeptide is behaving as a statistical coil in the non-interacting, high-temperature limit.
Journal ArticleDOI

Thermoresponsive self-assemblies of cyclic and branched oligosaccharide-block-poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) diblock copolymers into nanoparticles.

TL;DR: This paper discusses the thermoresponsive nanoparticles obtained by self-assemblies of nonlinear oligosaccharide-based diblock copolymer systems and shows compact spherical nanoparticles whose cores are mainly made with the PNIPAM blocks, whereas the rough shells consist in the oligOSaccharidic blocks.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interparticle distances in flocs

TL;DR: In this article, small-angle neutron scattering is used to measure the distances between spheres in a floc, and according to the distribution of these distances, the structures of flocs fall into two classes: (1) aggregates in which the particles are in direct contact, these are tenuous, self-similar structures that resemble those derived from models bases on random collisions, and (2) aggregate structures are prevented from coming into direct contact; however, their organization is dominated by heterogeneities in the density of the floc.

Specifically collapsed intermediate in the early stage of the folding of ribonuclease A.

TL;DR: The small-angle X-ray scattering measurements at approximately 22 ms after initiating the folding reaction demonstrated that the burst phase conformations of the medium and slow-refolding components of RNase A were distinctly smaller than that of r-RNase A.

Voids formed in quenched and annealed NiAl

TL;DR: In this article, the voids are found to be rhombic dodecahedra formed by faceting on the {110} family of planes, and they show some indication of coarsening at intermediate annealing temperatures of about 900°C, but at 1300°C and above, voids disappear.

Statistical Mechanics of Fluid Mixtures

TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical potentials of the components of gas mixtures and liquid solutions are obtained in terms of relatively simple integrals in the configuration spaces of molecular pairs, and the molecular pair distribution functions appearing in these integrals are investigated in some detail, in their dependence upon the composition and density of the fluid.

The optical principles of the diffraction of x-rays.

TL;DR: In this paper, Bragg et al. describe the Optik der R6ntgenstrahlen in Raumgitter and leitet damit fiber zu den experimentellen Methoden and Ergebn]ssen, die den folgenden B~nden vorbehalten bleiben.

Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering

TL;DR: The neighbourhood of the direct beam is, for a variety of reasons, easily obscured by scattered radiation and insufficient collimation, so that special measures such as very long film-specimen distances or focusing crystal monochromators have been used for obtaining satisfactory photographs.
