C-phycocyanin hydration water dynamics in the presence of trehalose : An incoherent elastic neutron scattering study at different energy resolutions

TL;DR: The approach demonstrates the benefits and the efficiency of using different energy resolutions in incoherent elastic neutron scattering over a large angular range for the study of biological macromolecules and hydration water.
Journal ArticleDOI

SANS study to probe nanoparticle dispersion in nanocomposite membranes of aromatic polyamide and functionalized silica nanoparticles.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that dispersions of silica nanoparticles as the nanosized aggregates in the polyamide phase could be achieved in the nanocomposite membrane with a silica content up to about 2 wt.%, and in corroboration with ring- or chain-like assemblies of the nanoparticles dispersed in the bulkpolyamide phase as observed by transmission electron microscopy.
Journal ArticleDOI

Small-angle scattering from multi-phase fractals

TL;DR: In this paper, a model that describes small-angle scattering from a multi-phase system with a few contrast parameters is described, and it is shown that the crossover position depends on the scattering length density of each phase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Link between protein-solvent and weak protein-protein interactions gives insight into halophilic adaptation.

TL;DR: A repulsive Donnan term, corresponding to counterion dissociation, and an attractive term related to previously measured preferential salt binding parameters are discussed from well-established thermodynamics considerations and qualitatively account for the behavior of the protein-protein interactions in the various solutions.
Journal ArticleDOI

Zinc-induced Self-association of Complement C3b and Factor H: IMPLICATIONS FOR INFLAMMATION AND AGE-RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION*

TL;DR: It is concluded that zinc-induced precipitation may contribute to the initial development of sub-retinal pigment epithelial deposits in the retina as well as reducing the progression to advanced age-related macular degeneration in higher risk patients.

Statistical Mechanics of Fluid Mixtures

TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical potentials of the components of gas mixtures and liquid solutions are obtained in terms of relatively simple integrals in the configuration spaces of molecular pairs, and the molecular pair distribution functions appearing in these integrals are investigated in some detail, in their dependence upon the composition and density of the fluid.

The optical principles of the diffraction of x-rays.

TL;DR: In this paper, Bragg et al. describe the Optik der R6ntgenstrahlen in Raumgitter and leitet damit fiber zu den experimentellen Methoden and Ergebn]ssen, die den folgenden B~nden vorbehalten bleiben.

Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering

TL;DR: The neighbourhood of the direct beam is, for a variety of reasons, easily obscured by scattered radiation and insufficient collimation, so that special measures such as very long film-specimen distances or focusing crystal monochromators have been used for obtaining satisfactory photographs.
