The influence of heptane-1,2,3-triol on the size and shape of LDAO micelles Implications for the crystallisation of membrane proteins

TL;DR: HP is a ‘small amphiphile’ compared to the surfactants used for solubilization of membrane proteins, the curvature of the host micelle will be increased by its insertion, and with increasing overall HP concentrations mixed LDAO/HP micelles of decreasing mass and radius are formed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural basis for Arf6-MKLP1 complex formation on the Flemming body responsible for cytokinesis

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that Arf6 directly interacts with mitotic kinesin‐like protein 1 (MKLP1), a Flemming body‐localizing protein essential for cytokinesis, and that the complex formation is required for completion of cytokinesIS.
Journal ArticleDOI

Small-angle neutron scattering study of micellar structures of dimeric surfactants

TL;DR: In this paper, small-angle neutron scattering measurements from bis-cationic dimeric surfactants, referred to as $16\ensuremath{-}m\ensuredmath{ -}16-, for different length of hydrocarbon spacers $m$= 3--6, 8, 10, and 12, are reported.
Journal ArticleDOI

Hexabenzocoronene Model Compounds for Asphaltene Fractions: Synthesis & Characterization

TL;DR: In this paper, the synthesis of alkylated hexabenzocoronenes is reported to provide new insight into the behavior of bitumen residue fractions, and the self-association behavior of these polyaromatic model compounds is investigated over a range of temperatures using vapor pressure osmometry (VPO), nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), optical and electron microscopy, X-ray and small-angle neutron scattering, and calorimetry (DSC/TGA).
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanism of DNA substrate recognition by the mammalian DNA repair enzyme, Polynucleotide Kinase

TL;DR: The flexible attachment of the FHA domain to the catalytic segment, elucidated by SAXS, enables the interactions of mPNK with diverse DNA substrates and protein partners required for effective orchestration of DNA end repair.

Statistical Mechanics of Fluid Mixtures

TL;DR: In this paper, the chemical potentials of the components of gas mixtures and liquid solutions are obtained in terms of relatively simple integrals in the configuration spaces of molecular pairs, and the molecular pair distribution functions appearing in these integrals are investigated in some detail, in their dependence upon the composition and density of the fluid.

The optical principles of the diffraction of x-rays.

TL;DR: In this paper, Bragg et al. describe the Optik der R6ntgenstrahlen in Raumgitter and leitet damit fiber zu den experimentellen Methoden and Ergebn]ssen, die den folgenden B~nden vorbehalten bleiben.

Small-Angle X-Ray Scattering

TL;DR: The neighbourhood of the direct beam is, for a variety of reasons, easily obscured by scattered radiation and insufficient collimation, so that special measures such as very long film-specimen distances or focusing crystal monochromators have been used for obtaining satisfactory photographs.
