TLDR
Computer simulations of crowds of interacting pedestrians show that the social force model is capable of describing the self-organization of several observed collective effects of pedestrian behavior very realistically.
Abstract
It is suggested that the motion of pedestrians can be described as if they would be subject to ``social forces.'' These ``forces'' are not directly exerted by the pedestrians' personal environment, but they are a measure for the internal motivations of the individuals to perform certain actions (movements). The corresponding force concept is discussed in more detail and can also be applied to the description of other behaviors. In the presented model of pedestrian behavior several force terms are essential: first, a term describing the acceleration towards the desired velocity of motion; second, terms reflecting that a pedestrian keeps a certain distance from other pedestrians and borders; and third, a term modeling attractive effects. The resulting equations of motion of nonlinearly coupled Langevin equations. Computer simulations of crowds of interacting pedestrians show that the social force model is capable of describing the self-organization of several observed collective effects of pedestrian behavior very realistically.

Crowd Disasters as Systemic Failures: Analysis of the Love Parade Disaster

TL;DR: A new scale to assess the criticality of conditions in the crowd is introduced, to allow preventative measures to be taken earlier on, and a number of misunderstandings that have widely spread are revealed.

Data-Driven Modeling of Pedestrian Crowds

TL;DR: Video recordings from the crowd disaster in Mina, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where hundreds of pilgrims lost their lives during the annual Muslim pilgrimage to Makkah, gave the possibility to scientifically evaluate the dynamics of the crowd and empirically evaluate many of the previous assumptions used for pedestrian simulations.

A multiagent-based model for pedestrian simulation in subway stations

TL;DR: A multiagent-based model is proposed on the basis of the metamodel proposed by Behe, which includes the subway station environment abstraction model, three-level pedestrian agent model and interactive rule base, and uses the object-oriented modeling method to realize a normative, extensible and flexible simulation environment building platform.

Human-Like Motion Planning Based on Game Theoretic Decision Making

TL;DR: The presented motion planner stands out against other motion planners by explicitly modeling human-like decision making and taking interdependencies between individuals into account, which is achieved by applying game theory.

Multiple Trajectory Prediction of Moving Agents with Memory Augmented Networks.

TL;DR: This paper proposes MANTRA, a model that exploits memory augmented networks to effectively predict multiple trajectories of other agents, observed from an egocentric perspective, and shows how once trained the system can continuously improve by ingesting novel patterns.

Improved fluid-dynamic model for vehicular traffic.

TL;DR: The fluid-dynamic traffic model of Kerner and Konh\"auser is extended by an equation for the vehicles' velocity variance, able to describe the observed increase of velocity variance immediately before a traffic jam develops.
