In 1992, Piette and colleagues suggested that the ACR revised criteria be reevaluated in light of the above discoveries, and the presence and clinical associations or antiphospholipid antibodies in patients with SLE was suggested.Abstract:
In 1982, the Diagnostic and Therapeutic Criteria Committee of the American College of Rheumatology (ACR)published revised criteria for the classification of systemiclupus erythematosus (SLE) (1). During the ensuing decade several investigators, including Drs. Graham Hughes and Donato Alarcon-Segovia, among others, have described the presence and clinical associations or antiphospholipid antibodies in patients with SLE, as well as the occurrence of theprimary antiphospholipid syndrome (2-5). In 1992, Piette and colleagues suggested that the ACR revised criteria be reevaluated in light of the above discoveries (6).read more

Basophils and the t helper 2 environment can promote the development of lupus nephritis
TL;DR: It is reported that activation of basophils by autoreactive IgE causes their homing to lymph nodes, promoting T helper type 2 (TH2) cell differentiation and enhancing the production of self-reactive antibodies that cause lupus-like nephritis in mice lacking the Src family protein tyrosine kinase Lyn.

Reduced B lymphocyte and immunoglobulin levels after atacicept treatment in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: results of a multicenter, phase Ib, double-blind, placebo-controlled, dose-escalating trial.
Maria Dall'Era,Eliza F. Chakravarty,Daniel J. Wallace,Mark C. Genovese,Michael H. Weisman,Arthur Kavanaugh,Kenneth C. Kalunian,Patricia Dhar,Emmanuelle Vincent,Claudia Pena-Rossi,David Wofsy +10 more
TL;DR: Biologic activity of atacicept was demonstrated by dose-dependent reductions in immunoglobulin levels and in mature and total B cell numbers and demonstrated biologic activity consistent with the proposed mechanism of action.

Rivaroxaban versus warfarin to treat patients with thrombotic antiphospholipid syndrome, with or without systemic lupus erythematosus (RAPS): a randomised, controlled, open-label, phase 2/3, non-inferiority trial
Hannah Cohen,Hannah Cohen,Beverley J. Hunt,Maria Efthymiou,Deepa R. J. Arachchillage,Ian Mackie,Simon Clawson,Yvonne Sylvestre,Samuel J. Machin,Maria Laura Bertolaccini,Maria Ruiz-Castellano,N Muirhead,Caroline J Doré,Munther A. Khamashta,David A. Isenberg,David A. Isenberg +15 more
TL;DR: ETP for rivaroxaban did not reach the non-inferiority threshold, but as there was no increase in thrombotic risk compared with standard-intensity warfarin, this drug could be an effective and safe alternative in patients with antiphospholipid syndrome and previous venous thromboembolism.

Prediction of Adverse Pregnancy Outcome by the Presence of Lupus Anticoagulant, but Not Anticardiolipin Antibody, in Patients With Antiphospholipid Antibodies

TL;DR: LAC is the primary predictor of adverse pregnancy outcome after 12 weeks' gestation in aPL-associated pregnancies, and anticardiolipin antibody and anti-β2 GPI, if LAC is not also present, do not predict adverseregnancy outcome.

TL;DR: The aim of this study was to improve characterization of the blood IFN signature in adult SLE patients.

Eng M. Tan,Alan S. Cohen,James F. Fries,Alfonse T. Masi,Dennis J. McShane,Naomi F. Rothfield,Jane G. Schaller,Norman Talal,Robert Winchester +8 more
TL;DR: The 1971 preliminary criteria for the classification of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) were revised and updated to incorporate new immunologic knowledge and improve disease classification and showed gains in sensitivity and specificity.

Anticardiolipin antibodies: detection by radioimmunoassay and association with thrombosis in systemic lupus erythematosus
E. N. Harris,Boey Ml,C G Mackworth-Young,A. E. Gharavi,B. M. Patel,S. Loizou,Graham R. V. Hughes +6 more
TL;DR: A new solid-phase radioimmunoassay for the detection of anticardiolipin antibodies is 200-400 times more sensitive than the precipitation method used in the Venereal Disease Reference Laboratory test and appears to have predictive value for thrombosis in SLE and related disorders.

TL;DR: The group of patients presented appears to be closely related, but distinctly separate from SLE, with a history of deep vein thromboses and a family history of SLE or a familial clotting tendency in a minority.

TL;DR: This study shows that properly performed ELISA or SRIA assays can be used to provide an accurate, reproducible, and quantitative measure of IgG and IgM aCL concentration in serum samples.
