Abstract
Two data sources--self-reports and peer ratings--and two instruments--adjective factors and questionnaire scales--were used to assess the five-factor model of personality. As in a previous study of self-reports (McCrae & Costa, 1985b), adjective factors of neuroticism, extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness-antagonism, and conscientiousness-undirectedness were identified in an analysis of 738 peer ratings of 275 adult subjects. Intraclass correlations among raters, ranging from .30 to .65, and correlations between mean peer ratings and self-reports, from .25 to .62, showed substantial cross-observer agreement on all five adjective factors. Similar results were seen in analyses of scales from the NEO Personality Inventory. Items from the adjective factors were used as guides in a discussion of the nature of the five factors. These data reinforce recent appeals for the adoption of the five-factor model in personality research and assessment.

The big five personality dimensions and job performance

TL;DR: In this article, a cross-sectional survey design was used to determine the relationship between personality dimensions and job performance, and the results showed that emotional stability, extraversion, openness to experience and conscientiousness were related to task performance and creativity.

Conceptions and correlates of openness to experience.

TL;DR: Openness is seen in the breadth, depth, and permeability of consciousness and in the recurrent need to enlarge and examine experience as discussed by the authors, which suggests a passive or uncritical receptivity, which is clearly inappropriate.

What we know about leadership: Effectiveness and personality.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors define leadership and then answer nine questions that routinely come up when practical decisions are made about leadership (e.g., whom to appoint, how to evaluate them, when to terminate them).

Reinterpreting the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator from the perspective of the five-factor model of personality.

TL;DR: The data suggest that Jung's theory is either incorrect or inadequately operationalized by the MBTI and cannot provide a sound basis for interpreting it, but correlational analyses showed that the four MBTI indices did measure aspects of four of the five major dimensions of normal personality.

Deep-level composition variables as predictors of team performance: a meta-analysis.

TL;DR: Team minimum agreeableness and team mean conscientiousness, openness to experience, collectivism, and preference for teamwork emerged as strong predictors of team performance in field studies.

Review of personality and social psychology
