Antisense long noncoding RNAs regulate var gene activation in the malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum.

TL;DR: It is shown that antisense long noncoding RNAs initiating from var introns are associated with the single active var gene at the time in the cell cycle when the single var upstream promoter is active and played a key role in regulating var gene activation and mutually exclusive expression.
Journal ArticleDOI

The changes in mosquito vector behaviour and the emerging resistance to insecticides will challenge the decline of malaria

TL;DR: By using nets to protect ourselves, are the authors providing Anopheles with the entire arsenal needed to hit much harder?
Journal ArticleDOI

High proportion of knowlesi malaria in recent malaria cases in Malaysia.

TL;DR: The findings from this study highlight the widespread distribution of P. knowlesi infection in many Peninsular Malaysia states, including Sabah and Sarawak, which have been known for high prevalence of the parasite.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improving imperfect data from health management information systems in Africa using space-time geostatistics

TL;DR: This study has taken the example of presumed malaria in outpatients within the largely incomplete Kenyan HMIS database and has defined a geostatistical modelling framework that can predict values for all data that are missing through space and time to provide reliable information from imperfect HMIS data to support evidence-based decision-making at national and sub-national levels.

Malaria mortality rates in South Asia and in Africa: implications for malaria control.

TL;DR: This work examines malaria-related mortality under different circumstances and discusses implications for the management of malaria in these settings and emphasizes the power of rapid case treatment to save lives at risk under virtually all circumstances of malaria transmission.

Epidemiology of malaria in displaced Khmers on the Thai-Kampuchean border.

TL;DR: Malaria epidemiology from 1983 to 1985 in displaced Khmers living in camps on the Thai-Kampuchean border was studied and Epidemiological information has been more useful for planning than for evaluating control measures.
