Randomized trials of artemisinin-piperaquine, dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine phosphate and artemether-lumefantrine for the treatment of multi-drug resistant falciparum malaria in Cambodia-Thailand border area.

TL;DR: The statistical data showed that 28-day cure rate in AP and DHP groups was superior to AL group obviously, and in this particular setting, the AP regimen turned out to be favourable in terms of efficacy and effectiveness, simplicity of administration, cost and compliance.
Journal ArticleDOI

The Plasmodium falciparum Artemisinin Susceptibility-Associated AP-2 Adaptin μ Subunit is Clathrin Independent and Essential for Schizont Maturation

TL;DR: The experiments show that AP-2 is essential for parasite development in blood but does not have any role in clathrin-mediated endocytosis, which suggests that a specialized function for AP-1 has developed in malaria parasites, and this may be important for understanding its impact on drug resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Adaptive geostatistical sampling enables efficient identification of malaria hotspots in repeated cross-sectional surveys in rural Malawi.

TL;DR: Continuous malaria prevalence surveys using adaptive sampling increased malaria prevalence prediction accuracy and can assist local managers to target malaria control interventions in areas with the greatest health impact and is ready for assessment in other diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasmodium vivax Hospitalizations in a Monoendemic Malaria Region: Severe Vivax Malaria?

TL;DR: A retrospective case control study in the subregion of Luciano Castillo Colonna, Piura, Peru found that severe vivax malaria monoinfection with critical illness is more common than previously thought.

Malaria mortality rates in South Asia and in Africa: implications for malaria control.

TL;DR: This work examines malaria-related mortality under different circumstances and discusses implications for the management of malaria in these settings and emphasizes the power of rapid case treatment to save lives at risk under virtually all circumstances of malaria transmission.
Journal Article

Epidemiology of malaria in displaced Khmers on the Thai-Kampuchean border.

TL;DR: Malaria epidemiology from 1983 to 1985 in displaced Khmers living in camps on the Thai-Kampuchean border was studied and Epidemiological information has been more useful for planning than for evaluating control measures.
