Biting by Anopheles funestus in broad daylight after use of long-lasting insecticidal nets: a new challenge to malaria elimination

TL;DR: Anopheles funestus showed a behavioural change in biting activity after introduction of LLINs, remaining anthropophilic and endophilic, while adopting diurnal feeding, essentially on humans, which represents a new challenge for malaria control.
Journal ArticleDOI

Insect olfaction from model systems to disease control

TL;DR: It is suggested how progress in defining the basic mechanisms of insect olfaction may lead to means of disrupting host-seeking and other olfactory behaviors, thereby reducing the transmission of deadly diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI

Price Subsidies, Diagnostic Tests, and Targeting of Malaria Treatment: Evidence from a Randomized Controlled Trial

TL;DR: Dupas et al. as mentioned in this paper studied the implications of this tradeoff for subsidizing life-saving antimalarials sold over-the-counter at retail drug outlets and showed that a very high subsidy (such as the one under consideration by the international community) dramatically increases access, but nearly half of subsidized pills go to patients without malaria.
Journal ArticleDOI

Oral delivery of curcumin bound to chitosan nanoparticles cured Plasmodium yoelii infected mice.

TL;DR: Binding of curcumin to chitosan nanoparticles increases its chemical stability and enhances its bioavailability when fed to mice, and in vitro data suggest that it can inhibit hemozoin synthesis which is lethal for the parasite.

Malaria mortality rates in South Asia and in Africa: implications for malaria control.

TL;DR: This work examines malaria-related mortality under different circumstances and discusses implications for the management of malaria in these settings and emphasizes the power of rapid case treatment to save lives at risk under virtually all circumstances of malaria transmission.

Epidemiology of malaria in displaced Khmers on the Thai-Kampuchean border.

TL;DR: Malaria epidemiology from 1983 to 1985 in displaced Khmers living in camps on the Thai-Kampuchean border was studied and Epidemiological information has been more useful for planning than for evaluating control measures.
