15 Sep 1998TL;DR: In this paper, a workpiece made from an age-hardenable nickel-base alloy (1, 2) is welded with filler material of the same composition as the base material, which is formed in so doing is covered by a sealed covering layer comprising a ductile material and the workpiece is subjected to hot isostatic pressing (HIP).
Abstract: In a method for welding age-hardenable nickel-base alloys, a workpiece (5) made from an age-hardenable nickel-base alloy (1, 2) is welded with filler material of the same composition as the base material. The weld metal (3) which is formed in so doing is covered by a sealed covering layer (4) comprising a ductile material and the workpiece (5) is subjected to hot isostatic pressing (HIP).

29 Mar 1996TL;DR: In this paper, a gas-blast circuit breaker with an insulating-material matrix and a filler embedded in the matrix and distinguished by a cellular structure is described. But the stock is not equipped with an arc-extinguishing material.
Abstract: The stock contains an insulating-material matrix and a filler embedded in the matrix and is distinguished by a cellular structure. The predominant portion of the cells is filled with a material having arc-extinguishing properties or contains a material which, on exposure to an arc, forms arc-extinguishing gas. For the purpose of improving the making and breaking capacity, such a stock can advantageously be employed in a gas-blast circuit breaker in which arc-extinguishing gas is blown onto the switching arc. This involves the stock preferably being positioned at such points guiding the arc-extinguishing gas, at which the stock is exposed to the radiation of the arc and the thermal action of arc gases.

29 Mar 1997TL;DR: In this paper, a rod-shaped capacitative level detector is designed in such a way that in a more conductive medium (10) large ionic double-layer capacities occur at the electrodes (4, 5, 6, 13) and in an isolating medium (11) small capacities are present between the electrodes.
Abstract: The aim of the present invention is to optimize a capacitative level detector, which is particularly suitable for determining the location of a boundary layer (12) between water (10) and oil (11) in a separator tank. The known sensor principle consists of measuring the environment-dependent capacity between neighbouring electrodes (13, 4; 4, 5; 5, 6) of a rod-shaped probe (1). The invention is characterized in that the probe (1) is designed in such a way that in a more conductive medium (10) large ionic double-layer capacities occur at the electrodes (4, 5, 6, 13) and in a more isolating medium (11) small capacities are present between the electrodes (4, 5, 6, 13). To this end, the invention provides for a large electrode size (h), a relation of electrode size (h) to electrode distance (a) preferably in the range 1

TL;DR: From field-dependent measurements, it is identified that transitions in coupled graphene monolayers are governed by polarization mixing selection rules, whereas transitions in decoupled graphene monlayers are govern by polarization preserving selection rules.
Abstract: We report on the polarization selection rules of inter-Landau-level transitions using reflection-type optical Hall effect measurements from 600 to 4000 cm(-1) on epitaxial graphene grown by thermal decomposition of silicon carbide. We observe symmetric and antisymmetric signatures in our data due to polarization preserving and polarization mixing inter-Landau-level transitions, respectively. From field-dependent measurements, we identify that transitions in coupled graphene monolayers are governed by polarization mixing selection rules, whereas transitions in decoupled graphene monolayers are governed by polarization preserving selection rules. The selection rules may find explanation by different coupling mechanisms of inter-Landau-level transitions with free charge carrier magneto-optic plasma oscillations.

16 Jan 1992TL;DR: In this paper, a method and a device for controlling the flow of the molten metal in non-solidified portions of a cast strand in connection with casting of metal was proposed, where a static or periodic low-frequency magnetic field was applied to act with a maximum magnetic field strength in the mould exceeding 1000 Gauss in the path of the inflowing molten metal to brake and divide the primary flow (20) of molten metal flowing into the mould and to control any secondary flows (21, 22) arising.
Abstract: A method and a device for controlling the flow of the molten metal in non-solidified portions of a cast strand in connection with casting of metal. A mould (11) is supplied with at least one primary flow (20) of molten metal and at least one strand (1) is formed in the mould. At least one static or periodic low-frequency magnetic field (10) is applied to act with a maximum magnetic field strength in the mould exceeding 1000 Gauss in the path of the inflowing molten metal to brake and divide the primary flow (20) of molten metal flowing into the mould and to control any secondary flows (21, 22) arising. The static magnetic field (10) acts overessentially the whole width (W) of the cast strand (1) formed in the mould, whereby the magnetic field strength in a plane across the casting direction, on a level with the centre of the range of action of the magnetic field (10), varies within an interval of 60 to 100 per cent of its maximum value, while at the same time the field strength on a level with the upper surface/the meniscus of the molten metal amounts to at most 500 Gauss.
