TL;DR: Findings substantiate that exposures in the chronic study adequately tested the toxic potential of fiberglass and suggest overloading of clearance mechanisms.
Abstract: A multidose, subchronic inhalation study was used to estimate the maximum tolerated dose (MTD) of 901 fiberglass (MMVF10.1) for a chronic inhalation study using hamsters. Subchronic study results indicated that 30 mg/m3 [250-300 WHO fibers (> 5 mum long)/ cm3 and 100-130 fibers/cm3 > 20 mum long] meets or exceeds the estimated MTD, and chronic study results confirmed this. For the subchronic study, hamsters were exposed 6 h/day, 5 days/wk, for 13 wk to MMVF10.1 at 3, 16, 30, 45, and 60 mg/m3 (36, 206, 316, 552, or 714 WHO fibers/cm3), then monitored for 10 wk. Results demonstrating MTD were: inflammatory response (all fiber exposures); elevated lung cell proliferation with 16 mg/m3; lung lavage neutrophil elevations with 16 mg/m3 and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and protein elevations with 30 mg/m3; and persistent abnormal macrophage/ fiber clumps in lungs exposed to 45 and 60 mg/m3, which suggest overloading of clearance mechanisms. For the chronic study, hamsters were exposed for 78 wk to MMVF10a (...

TL;DR: In this paper, single crystals of WS2 were prepared by chemical vapor transport method using sulfur as a transport agent and measurements of electrical resistivity, Seebeck coefficient and thermal conductivity as a function of temperature along the in-plane and the out-of-plane directions reveal distinct trends.

TL;DR: The study is aimed at showing that the combination of STATCOM and battery energy storage significantly improves the performance of the system and shows that the STATCOM reactive power/voltage control helps in transient stability enhancement.
Abstract: Integration of STATCOM with energy storage devices plays an imperative role in improving the power system operation and control. Significant research has been done in this area for practical realization of benefits of the integration. This paper, however, pays particular importance to the performance improvement for the transients as is achievable by STATCOM with battery-powered storage systems. Application of STATCOM with storage in regard to intermittent renewable energy sources such as wind power generation is also discussed in the paper. At the beginning of this paper, an overall review of the STATCOM and energy storage systems are elaborated. A brief overview of the advantages of using STATCOM in conjunction to energy storage systems in achieving power system stability is presented. In the second part of the paper, a typical transient stability model of a STATCOM is presented. The dynamics of real and reactive power responses of the integrated system to transients is studied. The study is aimed at showing that the combination of STATCOM and battery energy storage significantly improves the performance of the system. The final results show that the STATCOM reactive power/voltage control helps in transient stability enhancement.

TL;DR: In this paper, a stack of series-connected, flat, zirconia solid electrolyte-based, high temp. fuel cells with current transfer components inserted between adjacent cells is presented.
Abstract: A device, for converting the chemical energy content of a gaseous fuel into electrical energy, includes a stack of series-connected, flat, zirconia solid electrolyte-based, high temp. fuel cells (1,2,3) with current transfer components inserted between adjacent cells. The novelty is that each inserted component consists of a central, electrically conductive, gastight, flat separator plate (4) sandwiched between electrically conductive, elastic current collectors (6,7) having contact points for the separator plate (4) and the adjacent cell electrode (2,3), the contact points being permanently subjected to pressure perpendicular to the plate plane. The periphery of the separator plates and fuel cells is provided with flat insulating spacer frames (9), elastic seals (10) and corresponding gaseous medium feed and discharge systems. The entire stack is held together under pressure perpendicular to the plate plane by elastic ti-rods or stirrups located at the periphery of or outisde the fuel cells and separator plates. ADVANTAGE - The device has an extremely high of many fuel cells and good current transfer between cells with minimal losses. and has a design allowing mass prodn.

TL;DR: In this article, an adaptive parameter tuning of a power oscillations damping (POD) controller for the thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC) is described. And the adaptive control is based on pole shifting.
Abstract: This paper describes an adaptive parameter tuning of a power oscillations damping (POD) controller for the thyristor controlled series compensator (TCSC). The adaptive control is based on pole shifting. In order to maintain good damping over a wide range of operating conditions, the parameters of the POD controller are adapted on-line, based on the measured system input and output. Simulation results are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
