26 Dec 2019TL;DR: In this paper, the authors focused on detecting the onset of sepsis based on 40 features from ICU patients using the logistic regression classifier, where heavy class imbalance between septic and nonseptic patients is addressed by giving more weight to the minority class.
Abstract: Sepsis is a dangerous condition that happens when the body’s reaction to contamination results in tissue harm, failure of organs, or sometimes even death. Early recognition and anti-infection sepsis-treatment are basic to enhancing sepsis results, where every hour of deferred treatment has been related with an escalation in mortality. Along these lines, this image gives a reasonable view as to the significance of early discovery of sepsis. This study focuses on detecting the onset of sepsis based on 40 features from ICU patients using the logistic regression classifier. The heavy class imbalance between septic and nonseptic patients is addressed by giving more weight to the minority class. Pearson correlation coefficient was used to select the features useful to predict the target variable and the data was standardized afterwards. Using the scoring system provided by PhysioNet/Computing in Cardiology (CinC) Challenge 2019 ,the model achieved a score of 32.4% on the training dataset (20336 subjects) and 14% on the unseen test dataset (20000 subjects).

17 Dec 2020TL;DR: In this article, a new topological sorting algorithm is proposed that is completely new and it reduces the time complexity of the previous algorithms by separating the vertices having outgoing edges and having no outgoing edges then removing outgoing edges step by step.
Abstract: In the case of finding the topological ordering of a directed acyclic graph (DAG), kahn’s and Depth First Search (DFS) topological sorting algorithms are used. Both of these algorithms time complexity is O(|V| + |E|). Here a topological sorting algorithm is proposed that is completely new and it reduces the time complexity of the previous algorithms. By separating the vertices having outgoing edges and the vertices having no outgoing edges then removing outgoing edges step by step, we can find a topological ordering of any DAG. The time complexity after using the proposed algorithm reduces to \( {\text{O}}\left( {\sum
olimits_{i = 1}^{\left| v \right|} {\left| {\left( {NE} \right)_{i} } \right|} } \right) \) for both average case and worst case but for best case it reduce to O(|V|), here |V| is the number of vertex and |(NE)| is the number of vertex contains at least one outgoing edge. This algorithm also can detect cycle in a graph. This algorithm cab be used for resolving dependencies, scheduling system, planning and in many graph algorithms.

TL;DR: In this article, porous titanium oxide (PA-TiO2) foams were synthesized using space-holding powder metallurgy and sintering methods to produce interconnected opened-cell structure with surface morphology of mountain-like features associated with the extensive rift valley system.
Abstract: Despite the importance of porous titanium oxide (PA-TiO2) in diverse functional applications, very little information is available on the compatible mechanical properties for potential biomedical applications. In this study, PA-TiO2 foam was synthesized using space-holding powder metallurgy and sintering methods to produce interconnected opened-cell structure with surface morphology of mountain-like features associated with the extensive rift valley system. Three different types of PA-TiO2 foams with porosities of 35-52% and mean pore diameter of 190-210 μm were fabricated for evaluating the effect of porosity on mechanical properties of bulk PA-TiO2. The modulus of elasticity of PA-TiO2 foams exhibited in the range of 45-262 MPa which was within the range of modulus of elasticity of human cancellous bone. Cytotoxicity test is performed in vitro analysis to observe the effect of cell toxicity to produce osteointegration when used as implantable materials. There was no cytotoxicity effect found and remarkable cell growth was observed for human cancerous (HeLa) cell line. However, there was no cytotoxicity effect found and cell growth was not observed for Vero cell line. This study suggested that PA-TiO2 facilitates cell growth without spreading toxicity and has mechanical properties of cancellous bone. Hence, it has potential application as implant and medical devices in biomedical applications.

01 Jan 2014TL;DR: In this article, a robotic framework that can establish eye contact with the human in terms of gaze crossing and gaze awareness is proposed, which can give stronger feeling of being lookedat and better feeling of making eye contact than ones with absent of such behaviors.
Abstract: Establishing eye contact with the target human plays a central role both in human-human and human-robot communications. A person seems that s/he meet eye contact with the other when they are looking at each other eyes. However, such a looking behavior alone is not enough, displaying gaze awareness behavior also necessary for making successful eye contact. In this paper, we proposed a robotic framework that can establish eye contact with the human in terms two phases: gaze crossing and gaze awareness. We evaluated a primitive way of displaying robot’sgaze behaviors to its partner and confirmed that the robot withsuch gaze behaviors could give stronger feeling of being lookedat and better feeling of making eye contact than ones with absent of such behaviors.A preliminary experiment with a robotic head shows the effectiveness of using blinking behavior as a gaze awareness modality for responding partner.

01 Feb 2020TL;DR: This paper measured various M2M quality of services performance for exceeding the number of EVs by using three popular algorithms (proportional fair scheduling, modified largest weighted delay first scheduling and exponential scheduling) and shows that the proportional fair scheduler has the highest packet loss ratio (PLR) and delay time as compared to other two schedulers.
Abstract: For smart cities, electric vehicles (EVs) are promisingly considered as a striving industry due to its pollution-less behaviours and easy-to-maintain characteristics. A seamless management system is necessary to manage the energy between EV and various parties participating in the grid operation. To facilitate the energy system in a distributed and coordinated way, a machine-to-machine (M2M) system can be considered as the key component in future intelligent transportation systems. Due to the ubiquitous range and data speed, a fourth-generation (4G) cellular-based long-term evaluation (LTE) system inspires us to select it as a potential carrier for M2M communication. However, various simulation and analytical modelling end up with the conclusion that the maximum 250 EVs can be connected under an LTE base station. These limitations or scalability limits may result in a terrible mix-up in future smart cities for over dense roads. In this paper, we measured various M2M quality of services performance for exceeding the number of EVs by using three popular algorithms (proportional fair scheduling, modified largest weighted delay first scheduling and exponential scheduling). The result shows that the proportional fair scheduler has the highest packet loss ratio (PLR) and delay time as compared to other two schedulers.
