TL;DR: In this article, a biphasic system containing glycol dimethyl ether (GDE) as the extraction phase, and [BMIM]Cl/CrCl3/glucose in combination with a partitioned amount of GDE and an appropriate amount of water as the reaction phase was found to be highly efficient for the reaction; CrCl3 catalyzed the formation of 5-HMF in 64.5 mol% yield from a very high glucose concentration (80 wt% with respect to the ionic liquid) at 108 °C.

TL;DR: A novel 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide with two different metal cation receptors connected at 4-AMino or imide nitrogen positions respectively was designed and prepared and several logic gate operations, such as OR, NOR and INHIBIT, can be achieved.
Abstract: A novel 4-amino-1,8-naphthalimide (NDI) with two different metal cation receptors connected at 4-amino or imide nitrogen positions respectively was designed and prepared. Significant internal charge transfer (ICT) as well as photoinduced electron transfer (PET) from the receptors to NDI is revealed by the shifted UV-vis absorption spectra and significant fluorescence quenching. Both Zn2+ and Cu2+ can coordinate selectively with the two cation receptors in this molecule with different affinities. The coordination of Zn2+ with the receptor at imide nitrogen hindered the PET process and accordingly restored the quenched fluorescence of NDI. But the coordination of Zn2+ at 4-amino position blocked the ICT process and caused significant blue-shift on the absorption peak with the fluorescence intensity unaffected. Similarly, coordination of Cu2+ with the receptor at imide nitrogen can block the PET process, but can not restore the quenched fluorescence of compound 3 due to the paramagnetic properties of Cu2+, which quench the fluorescence significantly instead. With Cu2+ and Zn2+ as two chemical inputs and absorption or fluorescence as output, several logic gate operations, such as OR, NOR and INHIBIT, can be achieved.

TL;DR: In this paper, uniform core-shell Au-Pd@Pd nanocrystals were prepared by a simple and eco-friendly one-step wet-chemical coreduction method using allantoin as a structure-directing agent, without using any pre-made seed, toxic organic solvent, surfactant or polymer.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors examined the branching ratios of the rare dileptonic decays with a light CP-odd Higgs boson operator and showed that the branching ratio of these rare decays can be further enhanced with a superlight CPodd boson.
Abstract: In the next-to-minimal supersymmetric model (NMSSM) a light CP-odd Higgs boson is so far allowed by current experiments, which, together with a large tan beta, may greatly enhance the rare dileptonic decays B -> X(s)l(+)l(-) and B(s)-> l(+)l(-)gamma. We examine these decays paying special attention to the new operator allowed by the light CP-odd Higgs boson. We find that in the parameter space allowed by current experiments like CERN LEP II and b -> s gamma, the branching ratios of these rare decays can be greatly enhanced, and thus the existing experimental data on B -> X(s)mu(+)mu(-) can further stringently constrain the parameter space (especially the region with a superlight CP-odd Higgs boson and large tan beta). In the surviving parameter space we give the predictions for other dileptonic decay branching ratios and also show the results for the forward-backward asymmetry.
