Abstract: CeO2 nanoparticles/graphene nanocomposite is fabricated by depositing CeO2 nanoparticles onto three-dimensional graphene material and its supercapacitor performance is further investigated. The nanocomposite shows a high specific capacitance and power density, demonstrating a strong synergistic effect possibly contributed from improved conductivity of CeO2 and better utilization of graphene.

Abstract: Herein, we summarize recent research developments and progress of carbon dots (CDs), which have been attracting considerable attention as a new type of photoluminescent material. Raw materials, from single carbonaceous compounds to colorful natural substances, for the synthesis of CDs are discussed. A range of diverse synthetic methodologies to achieve better photoluminescence performance and more advanced functions are summarized, and these are basically divided into two classes: top-down and bottom-up. The inspiring properties, mainly including composites, optical properties and cytotoxicity, are listed. In particular, the luminescence mechanism and surface functionalization of the CDs are briefly discussed. Moreover, on the basis of the above, the long-wavelength and multicolor emission properties of CDs and ways to achieve these goals including surface state and size controlled by synthesis strategies, proper precursors, chemical doping and modification, solvatochromic effects and energy transfer are reviewed in detail.

Abstract: In this paper, a nanosized porous metal–organic framework, Fe-MIL-88NH2, was facilely prepared with a uniform octahedral shape by the addition of acetic acid, and for the first time was demonstrated to possess intrinsic peroxidase-like activity. Kinetic analysis and electron spin resonance measurements indicated that the catalytic behavior was consistent with typical Michaelis–Menten kinetics and follows a ping-pong mechanism. As a novel peroxidase mimic material, Fe-MIL-88NH2 shows the advantages of high catalytic efficiency, ultrahigh stability and high biocompatibility in aqueous medium compared with natural enzymes and other peroxidase nanomimetics. Here, Fe-MIL-88NH2 was used to quickly catalyze oxidation of the peroxidase substrate 3,3′,5,5′-tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) in the presence of H2O2 to produce a colored product, which provided a simple, sensitive and selective method for the colorimetric detection of glucose. Glucose could be linearly detected in the range from 2.0 × 10−6 to 3.0 × 10−4 M with a detection limit of 4.8 × 10−7 M, and the color variation for glucose response was also obvious by visual observation at concentrations as low as 2.0 × 10−6 M. More importantly, the colorimetric method could be successfully applied to the determination of glucose in diluted serum samples.

Abstract: The SilkDB is an open-access database for genome biology of the silkworm (Bombyx mori). Since the draft sequence was completed and the SilkDB was first released 5 years ago, we have collaborated with other groups to make much remarkable progress on silkworm genome research, such as the completion of a new high-quality assembly of the silkworm genome sequence as well as the construction of a genome-wide microarray to survey gene expression profiles. To accommodate these new genomic data and house more comprehensive genomic information, we have reconstructed SilkDB database with new web interfaces. In the new version (v2.0) of SilkDB, we updated the genomic data, including genome assembly, gene annotation, chromosomal mapping, orthologous relationship and experiment data, such as microarray expression data, Expressed Sequence Tags (ESTs) and corresponding references. Several new tools, including SilkMap, Silkworm Chromosome Browser (SCB) and BmArray, are developed to access silkworm genomic data conveniently. SilkDB is publicly available at the new URL of http://www.silkdb.org.
