Abstract: More than 100 distinct chemical modifications to RNA have been characterized so far. However, the prevalence, mechanisms and functions of various RNA modifications remain largely unknown. To provide transcriptome-wide landscapes of RNA modifications, we developed the RMBase v2.0 (http://rna.sysu.edu.cn/rmbase/), which is a comprehensive database that integrates epitranscriptome sequencing data for the exploration of post-transcriptional modifications of RNAs and their relationships with miRNA binding events, disease-related single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and RNA-binding proteins (RBPs). RMBase v2.0 was expanded with ∼600 datasets and ∼1 397 000 modification sites from 47 studies among 13 species, which represents an approximately 10-fold expansion when compared with the previous release. It contains ∼1 373 000 N6-methyladenosines (m6A), ∼5400 N1-methyladenosines (m1A), ∼9600 pseudouridine (Ψ) modifications, ∼1000 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modifications, ∼5100 2'-O-methylations (2'-O-Me), and ∼2800 modifications of other modification types. Moreover, we built a new module called 'Motif' that provides the visualized logos and position weight matrices (PWMs) of the modification motifs. We also constructed a novel module termed 'modRBP' to study the relationships between RNA modifications and RBPs. Additionally, we developed a novel web-based tool named 'modMetagene' to plot the metagenes of RNA modification along a transcript model. This database will help researchers investigate the potential functions and mechanisms of RNA modifications.

Abstract: . We analyzed the measurements of ozone (O3) and its precursors made at rural/suburban sites downwind of four large Chinese cities – Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Lanzhou, to elucidate their pollution characteristics, regional transport, in situ production, and impacts of heterogeneous processes. The same measurement techniques and observation-based model were used to minimize uncertainties in comparison of the results due to difference in methodologies. All four cities suffered from serious O3 pollution but showed different precursor distributions. The model-calculated in situ O3 production rates were compared with the observed change rates to infer the relative contributions of on-site photochemistry and transport. At the rural site downwind of Beijing, export of the well-processed urban plumes contributed to the extremely high O3 levels (up to an hourly value of 286 ppbv), while the O3 pollution observed at suburban sites of Shanghai, Guangzhou and Lanzhou was dominated by intense in situ production. The O3 production was in a volatile organic compound (VOC)-limited regime in both Shanghai and Guangzhou, and a NOx-limited regime in Lanzhou. The key VOC precursors are aromatics and alkenes in Shanghai, and aromatics in Guangzhou. The potential impacts on O3 production of several heterogeneous processes, namely, hydrolysis of dinitrogen pentoxide (N2O5), uptake of hydro peroxy radical (HO2) on particles and surface reactions of NO2 forming nitrous acid (HONO), were assessed. The analyses indicate the varying and considerable impacts of these processes in different areas of China depending on the atmospheric abundances of aerosol and NOx, and suggest the urgent need to better understand these processes and represent them in photochemical models.

Abstract: Uniform hexagonal hematite (α-Fe2O3) nanoplates have been synthesized by a facile alcohol-thermal reaction, and a new nanostructure of α-Fe2O3 has been proposed. Each nanoplate is enclosed by (0001) basal planes and {1012} side surfaces. The phase, size, shape, and growth orientation of these nanocrystals were characterized by powder X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy. The thickness and diameter of these nanocrystals could be finely tuned by the selective use of alcohol solvent with increasing carbon atom number in the linear alkyl chain. A variety of nanocrystals with systemically changeable shapes from nanoplates to nanograins have been obtained. Specific adsorption of alcohol molecules on polar (0001) facets is proposed to be the main issue to modify the growth behavior of hematite nanocrystals. Abstract: Research into adjusting the probabilities of crossover and mutation pm in genetic algorithms (GAs) is one of the most significant and promising areas in evolutionary computation. px and pm greatly determine whether the algorithm will find a near-optimum solution or whether it will find a solution efficiently. Instead of using fixed values of px and pm , this paper presents the use of fuzzy logic to adaptively adjust the values of px and pm in GA. By applying the K-means algorithm, distribution of the population in the search space is clustered in each generation. A fuzzy system is used to adjust the values of px and pm. It is based on considering the relative size of the cluster containing the best chromosome and the one containing the worst chromosome. The proposed method has been applied to optimize a buck regulator that requires satisfying several static and dynamic operational requirements. The optimized circuit component values, the regulator's performance, and the convergence rate in the training are favorably compared with the GA using fixed values of px and pm.
