TL;DR: In this paper, the authors present the planning, the architectural conception and the different materials and available constructive techniques for the Brazilian poultry industry that refers to the lodgings of the birds, seeking to propitiate a better conditioned thermal atmosphere, compatible with the different Brazilian climatic areas.
Abstract: To the great growth of the market and the extraordinary scientific progress verified in the Brazilian poultry industry, little attention was given, until recently, to the lodging techniques and, indeed, to the environment of growing birds. This is only a seven year-old subject, and with the perspective of the globalization process that today moves the world economy, this industry started to look for facilities and environment, seeking the improvement possibilities in the poultry activity and the reduction of the production costs as a form of maintaining the competitiveness. The high-density production of birds became imperative and, this way, the demand of environmental thermal comfort, which had already grown a lot with the increase of the precocity of the birds, became even larger, as a consequence of the increase of lodging density. Thus, to continue being competitive, the Brazilian poultry industry has to develop, as soon as possible, from the situation of almost indifference of the beginning of the thermal atmosphere conditioning, to a situation in which each company or integration should take its own decisions of adoption of architectural conceptions and innovations associated with systems of thermal, natural and artificial conditioning, compatible with its reality. Decisions that already include the modifications of the existing houses and the conception of new units. We are witnessing, for sure, the moment of more intense transformations of the Brazilian poultry lodgings. From what was exposed, this work intends to approach the planning, the architectural conception and the different materials and available constructive techniques for the Brazilian poultry industry that refers to the lodgings of the birds, seeking to propitiate a better conditioned thermal atmosphere, compatible with the different Brazilian climatic areas.

TL;DR: Last generation of Eucalyptus clones pulped by the main Brazilian kraft pulp mills were used for this study and demonstrated the high quality of EUCalyPTus clones wood that are being planted in Brazil for k Kraft pulp production.
Abstract: Foram analisados clones de Eucalyptus de ultima geracao, pertencentes as principais empresas brasileiras de celulose.

TL;DR: This is the first report of a disease resistance gene identified in Eucalyptus, and one of the few examples of the involvement of a major gene in a non-coevolved pathosystem.
Abstract: Rust is one of the most-damaging eucalypt diseases in Brazil and is considered a potential threat to eucalypt plantations worldwide. To determine the mode of inheritance of resistance in the Eucalyptus grandis—Puccinia psidii pathosystem, ten full-sib families, generated from crosses between susceptible and resistant trees, were inoculated with a single-pustule isolate of the pathogen and rust severity was scored. The observed segregation ratios in segregating families suggested major gene control of rust resistance, although clearly incomplete penetrance, variable expressivity and minor genes are also involved in the global rust-resistance response. To identify markers linked to the resistance locus, screening of RAPD polymorphisms was conducted using bulked segregant analysis in a large full-sib family. A linkage group was built around the Ppr1 gene (P. psidii resistance gene 1) encompassing six RAPD markers, with a genetic window spanning 5 cM with the two most-closely linked flanking markers. Besides these two flanking markers, RAPD marker AT9/917 co-segregated with Ppr1 without a single recombinant in 994 meioses. This tightly linked marker should prove useful for marker-assisted introgression and will provide an initial lead for a positional cloning effort of this resistance allele. This is the first report of a disease resistance gene identified in Eucalyptus, and one of the few examples of the involvement of a major gene in a non-coevolved pathosystem.
