TL;DR: In this article, the W and Z boson production cross sections in pp collisions at 7 TeV are presented, based on 2.9 inverse picobarns of data recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC.
Abstract: Measurements of inclusive W and Z boson production cross sections in pp collisions at sqrt(s)=7 TeV are presented, based on 2.9 inverse picobarns of data recorded by the CMS detector at the LHC. The measurements, performed in the electron and muon decay channels, are combined to give sigma(pp to WX) times B(W to muon or electron + neutrino) = 9.95 \pm 0.07(stat.) \pm 0.28(syst.) \pm 1.09(lumi.) nb and sigma(pp to ZX) times B(Z to oppositely charged muon or electron pairs) = 0.931 \pm 0.026(stat.) \pm 0.023(syst.) \pm 0.102(lumi.) nb. Theoretical predictions, calculated at the next-to-next-to-leading order in QCD using recent parton distribution functions, are in agreement with the measured cross sections. Ratios of cross sections, which incur an experimental systematic uncertainty of less than 4%, are also reported.

01 Nov 2010TL;DR: In this paper, the steady-state analysis of the converter has been carried out, giving some guidelines for the design (considering soft switching limits and the amount of reactive current) and a small-signal model of the topology.
Abstract: The increase demand of an intermediate storage of electrical energy in battery systems, in particular due to the use of renewable energy, has resulted in the need of bidirectional DC/DC power converters with galvanic isolation Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), battery charging systems, photovoltaic equipment and auxiliary power supplies in traction applications are examples of some fields of application of this kind of converters A Dual Active Bridge (DAB) bidirectional DC/DC converter is a topology with the advantages of decreased number of devices, soft-switching commutations, low cost, and high efficiency The use of this topology is proposed for applications where the power density, cost, weight, and reliability are critical factors In the present paper the steady-state analysis of the converter has been carried out, giving some guidelines for the design (considering soft switching limits and the amount of reactive current) and a small-signal model of the topology Simulations and experimental results are also presented

TL;DR: Comparative retrospective, nonrandomized study of 50 eyes from 48 patients with macular hole to determine if internal limiting membrane peeling in idiopathic macular holes surgery improves anatomic and functional results.
Abstract: Purpose To determine if internal limiting membrane (ILM) peeling in idiopathic macular hole surgery improves anatomic and functional results. Methods Comparative retrospective, nonrandomized study, of 50 eyes from 48 patients with macular hole, Stage III an IV of the Gass Classification. All of them were operated with the same technique. In 25 eyes the ILM was peeled (group 1). In the other 25 eyes the ILM was not peeled (group 2). We compare the anatomic and functional outcome as well as the complications in both groups. Results The overall anatomic success rate in the 50 eyes was 92% (46 eyes). In group 1 the anatomic success rate was 100% and 84% in group 2 (p=0.018). The visual acuity improved, one or more Snellen lines, in 34 of the 50 operated eyes (68%). In group 1 the visual acuity improved in 20 of the 25 eyes (80%) and in group 2 in 14 of the 25 eyes (56%) (p=0.034). The most relevant complications included retinal detachment, two cases in group 1 and one case in group 2, cataract and retinal pigment epithelium changes. Conclusions In our experience, internal limiting membrane peeling in macular hole surgery improves the anatomic and functional success, but not the final visual acuity.
