TL;DR: It is demonstrated the generation of nearly bandwidth-limited 8-fs optical pulses near 0.8 microm from a self-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser oscillator, using chirped dielectric mirrors for dispersion control.
Abstract: We demonstrate the generation of nearly bandwidth-limited 8-fs optical pulses near 0.8 microm from a self-mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser oscillator, using chirped dielectric mirrors for dispersion control. The mode-locking performance is described, and limitations are discussed.

TL;DR: The multidimensional information in Raman spectra gives a global view on all major components of the cell at once, complementing other more specific information-rich methods for single-cell analysis and can be used, for example, to study heterogeneities in a microbial population.
Abstract: In many biotechnological processes, living microorganisms are used as biocatalysts. Biochemical engineering science is becoming more aware that individual cells of an organism in a process can be f...

TL;DR: This paper presents an active cell balancing method for lithium-ion battery stacks using a flyback dc/dc converter topology, and it is shown how the active balancing method with respect to the cell voltages can be improved using the capacity and the state of charge rather than the voltage as the balancing criterion.
Abstract: This paper presents an active cell balancing method for lithium-ion battery stacks using a flyback dc/dc converter topology. The method is described in detail, and a simulation is performed to estimate the energy gain for ten serially connected cells during one discharging cycle. The simulation is validated with measurements on a balancing prototype with ten cells. It is then shown how the active balancing method with respect to the cell voltages can be improved using the capacity and the state of charge rather than the voltage as the balancing criterion. For both charging and discharging, an improvement in performance is gained when having the state of charge and the capacity of the cells as information. A battery stack with three single cells is modeled, and a realistic driving cycle is applied to compare the difference between both methods in terms of usable energy. Simulations are also validated with measurements.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors derived quantitative relationships between the amounts of tracer compounds and the number of spores in the atmosphere for different sites in the area of Vienna and obtained over all average relationships of 1.2-2.4 with a clear site dependence.

TL;DR: The Time-Triggered Protocol (TTP), which is intended for use in distributed real-time control applications that require a high dependability and guaranteed timeliness, is discussed.
Abstract: The Time-Triggered Protocol (TTP), which is intended for use in distributed real-time control applications that require a high dependability and guaranteed timeliness, is discussed. It integrates all services that are required in the design of a fault-tolerant real-time system, such as predictable message transmission, message acknowledgment in group communication, clock synchronization, membership, rapid mode changes, redundancy management, and temporary blackout handling. It supports fault-tolerant configurations with replicated nodes and replicated communication channels. TTP provides these services with a small overhead so it can be used efficiently on twisted pair channels as well as on fiber optic networks.
