Abstract: An essential part of the modulation of protein-binding capacity in hydrophobic interaction chromatography is the buffer-salt system. Besides using "single" electrolytes, multicomponent electrolyte mixtures may be used as an additional tool. Both the protein solubility and the binding capacity depend on the position of a salt in the so-called Hofmeister series. Specific interactions are observed for an individual protein-salt combination. For salt mixtures, selectivity, recovery, and binding capacity do not behave like for the single salts that are positioned in between the two mixed components in the Hofmeister series, as the continuous correlation would suggest. Thus, finding strategies for mixed salts could potentially lead to improved capacities in hydrophobic interaction chromatography. Mixtures of ammonium sulfate, sodium citrate, sodium sulfate, sodium chloride, sodium acetate, and glycine were used to investigate the binding capacities for lysozyme and a monoclonal antibody on various hydrophobic resins. Resin capacity for two investigated proteins increases when mixtures consisting of a chaotropic and a kosmotropic salt are applied. It seems to be related to the rather basic isoelectric points of the proteins.

Abstract: During the last ten years both in Germany and in China mathematics education has been focusing on promoting students to develop their mathematical modelling competences. In our study we have defined and investigated modelling competence levels of students (n=1108) from grade 9 to 11 (15–17 years old) while dealing with the special real situation of “peeling a pineapple”. This study analyzed which level related to the modelling cycle the students have reached, and if there were any gender differences while doing a mathematical modelling. Moreover, this study explored the mathematical modelling competences related to different grades, and some areas of diversity between German and Chinese students in relation to the modelling competences. We can show that there is no statistical difference between German boys and girls in solving this special modelling task, but for the Chinese students there is. We also found different barrier levels and blockages in the modelling cycle for the Chinese and the German students. We can also assert that the students in both countries perform steadily better in higher grades.

Abstract: A crawler web for crawler belts of crawler vehicles, in particular for ski slope vehicles or cross-country trackers, is proposed, which is fastened, transversely to the running direction, to mutually parallel bands oriented in the direction of travel. The bands being an elongate basic body which has a sheet-like support connected in the direction of the bands. The object of the invention is to provide a crawler web which can be adapted individually for different applications and can be produced at comparatively low costs. The object is achieved in that the basic body encompasses, in cross section, two side legs with a connecting web arranged between them, at least one side leg approaching the other in such a way that a cutting edge can be inserted between the legs.

Provided on the blank holder frame (13) for the purpose of supporting the four corner points of the pressure cheek (10) are four piston-cylinder units (14 to 16), which perform hydraulic clamping of the blank holder (6) during the drawing operation.

TL;DR: In this article, the electromechanical properties and strain monitoring behavior of graphene-coated glass fiber reinforced epoxy (GGFRE) composites were investigated, and it was shown that the integration of graphene into the composite has shown to decrease the tensile strength as well as flexural strength and flexural modulus by 26, 37% and 39%, respectively.
