Chitin and chitosan: Properties and applications
TLDR
Chitin is the second most important natural polymer in the world as mentioned in this paper, and the main sources of chitin are two marine crustaceans, shrimp and crabs, which are used for food, cosmetics, biomedical and pharmaceutical applications.About:

Different routes to turn chitin into stunning nano-objects
TL;DR: The increasing interest in the use of chitin as a source of nanostructured mate is due to its intractable structure and inherent insoluble nature as mentioned in this paper, making it an underutilized resource.

Chitosan effect on dental enamel de-remineralization: an in vitro evaluation.
TL;DR: OCT images support the idea that chitosan may act as a barrier against acid penetration, contributing to its demineralization inhibition, and microhardness measurements may be used as an indication of mineral loss from tooth enamel.

Chitosan-based water-propelled micromotors with strong antibacterial activity
Jorge Augusto de Moura Delezuk,Doris E. Ramírez-Herrera,Berta Esteban-Fernández de Ávila,Joseph Wang +3 more
TL;DR: A rapid and efficient micromotor-based bacteria killing strategy that couples the attractive antibacterial properties of chitosan with the efficient water-powered propulsion of magnesium (Mg) micromotors holds great considerable promise for advanced antimicrobial water treatment operation.

Tailoring surface charge and wetting property for robust oil-fouling mitigation in membrane distillation
TL;DR: In this paper, two composite membranes with in-air hydrophilic and underwater oleophobic surfaces, one of positive charge and the other of negative charge, were fabricated by modifying a hydrophobic polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane with polyelectrolytes with different charges.

Application of chitin- and chitosan-based materials for enzyme immobilizations: a review
TL;DR: A review of the literature on enzymes immobilized on chitin- and chitosan-based materials, covering the last decade, is presented in this paper, where one hundred fifty-eight papers on 63 immobilized enzymes for multiplicity of applications ranging from wine, sugar and fish industry, through organic compounds removal from wastewaters to sophisticated biosensors for both in situ measurements of environmental pollutants and metabolite control in artificial organs, are reviewed.
