Longitudinal analyses of the relationship between development density and the COVID-19 morbidity and mortality rates: Early evidence from 1,165 metropolitan counties in the United States.
TL;DR: It is found that large metropolitan size (measured in terms of population) lead to significantly higher COVID-19 infection rates and higher mortality rates, and after controlling for metropolitan size and other confounding variables, county density leads to significantly lower infections rates and lower death rates.
Journal ArticleDOI
Potential therapeutic targets for combating SARS-CoV-2: Drug repurposing, clinical trials and recent advancements.
Abhjieet Pandey,Ajinkya Nitin Nikam,Ajjappla Basavaraj Shreya,Sadhana P Mutalik,Divya Gopalan,Sanjay Kulkarni,Bharath Singh Padya,Gasper Fernandes,Srinivas Mutalik,Ruth Prassl +9 more
TL;DR: The present review describes the novel SARS-CoV-2 structure, surface proteins, asymptomatic and symptomatic transmission in addition to the genotype and phenotype of Sars-Cov-2 along with genetic strains and similarity between SARS, MERS and SARS
Journal ArticleDOI
What the COVID-19 pandemic tells us about the need to develop resilience in the nursing workforce.
TL;DR: Previous pandemics and disasters that have affected healthcare systems, as well as the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, are looked at, and how nurse leaders can support staff and show organisational resilience during such emergencies are considered.
Journal ArticleDOI
Diagnostic Tools for Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19): Comparing CT and RT-PCR Viral Nucleic Acid Testing.
Joseph Waller,Parveer Kaur,Amy Tucker,Keldon K. Lin,Michael J. Diaz,Travis S. Henry,Michael D. Hope +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors found that chest CT has limited sensitivity for COVID-19 and a lower specificity than RT-PCR testing, and it carries a risk of exposing providers to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
Journal ArticleDOI
A Case of Novel Coronavirus Disease 19 in a Chronic Hemodialysis Patient Presenting with Gastroenteritis and Developing Severe Pulmonary Disease.
Antoney Ferrey,Grace Choi,Ramy M Hanna,Yongen Chang,Ekamol Tantisattamo,Kaushik Ivaturi,Elisa Park,Lawrence Nguyen,Brian Wang,Sam Tonthat,Connie M. Rhee,Uttam Reddy,Wei Ling Lau,Susan S. Huang,Shruti K. Gohil,Alpesh Amin,Lanny Hsieh,Timmy Cheng,Richard A Lee,Kamyar Kalantar-Zadeh +19 more
TL;DR: This case is unique in its atypical initial presentation and highlights the importance of early testing in patients with chronic kidney disease, particularly patients with end-stage renal disease who are dialysis dependent.

SARS-CoV-2 Cell Entry Depends on ACE2 and TMPRSS2 and Is Blocked by a Clinically Proven Protease Inhibitor
Markus Hoffmann,Hannah Kleine-Weber,Simon Schroeder,Nadine Krüger,Tanja Herrler,Sandra Erichsen,Tobias S. Schiergens,Georg Herrler,Nai Huei Wu,Andreas Nitsche,Marcel A. Müller,Christian Drosten,Christian Drosten,Stefan Pöhlmann +13 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that SARS-CoV-2 uses the SARS -CoV receptor ACE2 for entry and the serine protease TMPRSS2 for S protein priming, and it is shown that the sera from convalescent SARS patients cross-neutralized Sars-2-S-driven entry.
