TLDR
Applied cancer control measures are needed to reduce rates in HICs and arrest the growing burden in LMICs, as well as for lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer, although some low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) now count among those with the highest rates.

Alcohol consumption and gastric cancer risk in Korea: a case-control study

TL;DR: It is suggested that excessive alcohol consumption rather than the current status or frequency of alcohol consumption contributes to the increased risk of gastric cancer, especially in women.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation on perioperative immune function and postoperative analgesia in patients undergoing radical mastectomy: A randomized controlled trial.

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of TEAS on postoperative pain and immune function in patients undergoing radical mastectomy were evaluated, and the results indicated that TEAS could improve postoperative analgesia, reduce postoperative consumption of opioids and alleviate postoperative side effects.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of Hematologic and Other Prognostic Markers in Metastatic Colorectal Cancer.

TL;DR: PNLR had the highest HR and the highest significance in multivariate analysis for both PFS and OS, and represents a valid prognostic tool in metastatic colorectal cancer among the spectrum of hematologic parameter-constructed tools.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differentiating cancer types using a urine test for volatile organic compounds

TL;DR: SPME urinary VOCs analysis was able to differentiate between controls and each of hepatocellular, prostate and bladder cancers, which suggests that urinary V OCs are cancer specific and could potentially be used as a diagnostic method.

Estimates of worldwide burden of cancer in 2008: GLOBOCAN 2008.

TL;DR: The results for 20 world regions are presented, summarizing the global patterns for the eight most common cancers, and striking differences in the patterns of cancer from region to region are observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduced lung-cancer mortality with low-dose computed tomographic screening.

TL;DR: Screening with the use of low-dose CT reduces mortality from lung cancer, as compared with the radiography group, and the rate of death from any cause was reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

The global health burden of infection-associated cancers in the year 2002.

TL;DR: The fraction of the different types of cancer, and of all cancers worldwide and in different regions, has been estimated using several methods; primarily by reviewing the evidence for the strength of the association (relative risk) and the prevalence of infection in different world areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changing patterns in the incidence of esophageal and gastric carcinoma in the United States

TL;DR: The authors update the incidence trends through 1994 and further consider the trends by age group.

What are the current global trends in advanced cancer incidence?

Advanced cancer incidence trends vary globally, with high-income countries showing higher rates for common cancers, while low- and middle-income countries face increasing rates due to lifestyle factors and infections.
