TLDR
Applied cancer control measures are needed to reduce rates in HICs and arrest the growing burden in LMICs, as well as for lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer, although some low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) now count among those with the highest rates.

High KIF2A expression promotes proliferation, migration and predicts poor prognosis in lung adenocarcinoma.

TL;DR: KIF2A may serve as a valuable prognostic indicator and promising therapeutic target of LUAD and inhibit cell proliferation and induced apoptosis in lung adenocarcinoma(LUAD) cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Soft Tissue Sarcoma Cancer Stem Cells: An Overview.

TL;DR: The published evidence for CSCs in each of the most common STSs is reviewed, then a focus is focused on the methods used to study C SCs, the developmental signaling pathways usurped byCSCs, and the epigenetic alterations critical for C SC identity that may be useful for further study of STS biology.
Journal ArticleDOI

Colorectal Cancer Genetics, Incidence and Risk Factors: In Search for Targeted Therapies

TL;DR: The aim of this paper was to review CRC in low- and middle-income countries such as South Africa, India, Brazil and China, and compare them with high-income nations such as the United States of America and the United Kingdom.

Estimates of worldwide burden of cancer in 2008: GLOBOCAN 2008.

TL;DR: The results for 20 world regions are presented, summarizing the global patterns for the eight most common cancers, and striking differences in the patterns of cancer from region to region are observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduced lung-cancer mortality with low-dose computed tomographic screening.

TL;DR: Screening with the use of low-dose CT reduces mortality from lung cancer, as compared with the radiography group, and the rate of death from any cause was reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

The global health burden of infection-associated cancers in the year 2002.

TL;DR: The fraction of the different types of cancer, and of all cancers worldwide and in different regions, has been estimated using several methods; primarily by reviewing the evidence for the strength of the association (relative risk) and the prevalence of infection in different world areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changing patterns in the incidence of esophageal and gastric carcinoma in the United States

TL;DR: The authors update the incidence trends through 1994 and further consider the trends by age group.

Advanced cancer incidence trends vary globally, with high-income countries showing higher rates for common cancers, while low- and middle-income countries face increasing rates due to lifestyle factors and infections.
