Global Cancer Incidence and Mortality Rates and Trends—An Update

TLDR
Applied cancer control measures are needed to reduce rates in HICs and arrest the growing burden in LMICs, as well as for lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer, although some low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) now count among those with the highest rates.

Predictive value of LDH kinetics in bevacizumab treatment and survival of patients with advanced NSCLC

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the predictive value of serum level of LDH in advanced non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients treated with bevacizumab.
Journal ArticleDOI

LukS-PV induces cell cycle arrest and apoptosis through p38/ERK MAPK signaling pathway in NSCLC cells

TL;DR: The present study showed that LukS-PV can induce apoptosis in human acute myeloid leukemia (AML) lines (THP-1 and HL-60) and may contribute to the development of anti-cancer agents.
Journal ArticleDOI

Let-7a Could Serve as A Biomarker for Chemo-Responsiveness to Docetaxel in Gastric Cancer.

TL;DR: Alterations in the expression level of let-7a, but not miR-21, and also its target, HMGA2, showed consistent results regarding to the more resistance of KATO III cell line with the highest IC50 concentration.
Journal ArticleDOI

Identification and validation of FGFR2 peptide for detection of early Barrett’s neoplasia

TL;DR: Potential for this FGFR2 peptide to be used as a clinical imaging agent to guide tissue biopsy and improve methods for early detection of EAC and potentially other epithelial-derived cancers is demonstrated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of Contrast-Enhanced Ultrasound versus Contrast-Enhanced Magnetic Resonance Imaging for the Diagnosis of Focal Liver Lesions Using the Liver Imaging Reporting and Data System

TL;DR: CEUS had a much higher sensitivity than CE- MRI in the diagnosis of HCC using LI-RADS, and although the frequencies of major features differed, inter-observer agreement between the two reviewers on major features of H CC was excellent for both CEUS and CE-MRI.

Estimates of worldwide burden of cancer in 2008: GLOBOCAN 2008.

TL;DR: The results for 20 world regions are presented, summarizing the global patterns for the eight most common cancers, and striking differences in the patterns of cancer from region to region are observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduced lung-cancer mortality with low-dose computed tomographic screening.

TL;DR: Screening with the use of low-dose CT reduces mortality from lung cancer, as compared with the radiography group, and the rate of death from any cause was reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

The global health burden of infection-associated cancers in the year 2002.

TL;DR: The fraction of the different types of cancer, and of all cancers worldwide and in different regions, has been estimated using several methods; primarily by reviewing the evidence for the strength of the association (relative risk) and the prevalence of infection in different world areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changing patterns in the incidence of esophageal and gastric carcinoma in the United States

TL;DR: The authors update the incidence trends through 1994 and further consider the trends by age group.

What are the current global trends in advanced cancer incidence?

Advanced cancer incidence trends vary globally, with high-income countries showing higher rates for common cancers, while low- and middle-income countries face increasing rates due to lifestyle factors and infections.
