Global Cancer Incidence and Mortality Rates and Trends—An Update

TLDR
Applied cancer control measures are needed to reduce rates in HICs and arrest the growing burden in LMICs, as well as for lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer, although some low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) now count among those with the highest rates.

Propranolol inhibits neonatal Nav1.5 activity and invasiveness of MDA-MB-231 breast cancer cells: Effects of combination with ranolazine.

TL;DR: The MDA‐MB‐231 cell line was used as a model of triple negative breast cancer to investigate the interaction of β‐adrenergic receptor (β‐AR) and voltage‐gated sodium channel (VGSC) and it is concluded that β‐AR and VGSC are functionally coupled in these cells and that propranolol has direct blocking action on the VGSC.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cachexia in Cancer Patients

TL;DR: This review is undertaken as an introduction and overview of current findings on classification and pathogenesis of cancer cachexia, and its implications on novel therapeutic strategies.
Journal ArticleDOI

Targeting Akt-associated microRNAs for cancer therapeutics.

TL;DR: In this paper, the Akt-associated miRNAs in several cancers, their molecular regulation, and how this newly emerging knowledge may contribute greatly to revolutionize cancer therapy are discussed. But the authors do not consider the effect of cancer on mRNA stability and translation efficiency and therefore, cancerous tissues exhibit drastic alterations in the expression of microRNAs.
Journal ArticleDOI

Radiotherapy modulates expression of EGFR, ERCC1 and p53 in cervical cancer

TL;DR: It is shown that a single dose of radiotherapy induced EGFR, ERCC1 and p53 expression in malignant tissues from cervical cancer patients but not in cancer cell lines, highlighting the gap between in vitro and in vivo experimental models.
Journal Article

Incidence and prognosis of liver metastasis at diagnosis: a pan-cancer population-based study.

TL;DR: A generalizable data resource for the epidemiology of liver metastasis (LM) is provided, which may help tailor screening protocol, design clinical trials and estimate disease burden.

Estimates of worldwide burden of cancer in 2008: GLOBOCAN 2008.

TL;DR: The results for 20 world regions are presented, summarizing the global patterns for the eight most common cancers, and striking differences in the patterns of cancer from region to region are observed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduced lung-cancer mortality with low-dose computed tomographic screening.

TL;DR: Screening with the use of low-dose CT reduces mortality from lung cancer, as compared with the radiography group, and the rate of death from any cause was reduced.
Journal ArticleDOI

The global health burden of infection-associated cancers in the year 2002.

TL;DR: The fraction of the different types of cancer, and of all cancers worldwide and in different regions, has been estimated using several methods; primarily by reviewing the evidence for the strength of the association (relative risk) and the prevalence of infection in different world areas.
Journal ArticleDOI

Changing patterns in the incidence of esophageal and gastric carcinoma in the United States

TL;DR: The authors update the incidence trends through 1994 and further consider the trends by age group.

What are the current global trends in advanced cancer incidence?

Advanced cancer incidence trends vary globally, with high-income countries showing higher rates for common cancers, while low- and middle-income countries face increasing rates due to lifestyle factors and infections.
