TLDR
Applied cancer control measures are needed to reduce rates in HICs and arrest the growing burden in LMICs, as well as for lung, colorectal, breast, and prostate cancer, although some low- and middle-income countries (LMIC) now count among those with the highest rates.

Cáncer: magnitud del problema en el mundo y en Uruguay, aspectos epidemiológicos

TL;DR: The epidemiological situation of the four most frequent cancers is analysed in Uruguay as they account for almost half of the total (female breast, prostate, lung and colo-rectum), and Uruguay shows a sustained decline in age- standardized mortality rates for all sites combined during the last two decades.

TL;DR: MiR-24 and miR-101 may promote the occurrence, development, infiltration and metastasis of gastric cancer, and can be indicators for the prognosis of patients with Gastric cancer.

Osteoporosis and fracture after gastrectomy for stomach cancer: A nationwide claims study.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors evaluated the incidence and risk factors of osteoporosis and fracture after gastrectomy for stomach cancer using a nationwide claims database in South Korea, and found that older age (hazard ratio [HR] 1.88; 95% confidence interval [CI]1.79-1.33] was significantly associated with fractures.

Screening for Cervical Cancer.

TL;DR: The most effective strategy for cervical cancer prevention involves vaccination to prevent human papillomavirus (HPV) infections during adolescence followed by screening to detect HPV infections during adulthood.

Estimates of worldwide burden of cancer in 2008: GLOBOCAN 2008.

TL;DR: The results for 20 world regions are presented, summarizing the global patterns for the eight most common cancers, and striking differences in the patterns of cancer from region to region are observed.

Reduced lung-cancer mortality with low-dose computed tomographic screening.

TL;DR: Screening with the use of low-dose CT reduces mortality from lung cancer, as compared with the radiography group, and the rate of death from any cause was reduced.

The global health burden of infection-associated cancers in the year 2002.

TL;DR: The fraction of the different types of cancer, and of all cancers worldwide and in different regions, has been estimated using several methods; primarily by reviewing the evidence for the strength of the association (relative risk) and the prevalence of infection in different world areas.

Changing patterns in the incidence of esophageal and gastric carcinoma in the United States

TL;DR: The authors update the incidence trends through 1994 and further consider the trends by age group.
