The effect of polymorphisms at the CD14 promoter and the TLR4 gene on asthma phenotypes in Turkish children with asthma
Cansin Sackesen,Cagatay Karaaslan,Ozlem Keskin,Tokol N,F. Tahan,Ersoy Civelek,Ozge Soyer,Adalioğlu G,Ayfer Tuncer,Esra Birben,C. Öner,O. Kalayci +11 more
TL;DR: Endotoxin, with its potential to enhance type 1 immunity, is a significant player in the hygiene hypothesis and the combined effects of the genetic variants of various molecules in the endotoxin response pathway on asthma related phenotypes are largely unknown.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictors of response to tiotropium versus salmeterol in asthmatic adults

TL;DR: In this paper, individual and differential responses of patients to salmeterol and tiotropium when added to an inhaled corticosteroid, as well as predictors of a positive clinical response were described.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adrenal suppression: A practical guide to the screening and management of this under-recognized complication of inhaled corticosteroid therapy
TL;DR: The risk for AS can be minimized through increased awareness and early recognition of at-risk patients, regular patient follow-up to ensure that the lowest effective ICS doses are being utilized to control asthma symptoms, and by choosing an ICS medication with minimal adrenal effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Effects of Maternal Exposure to Bisphenol A on Allergic Lung Inflammation into Adulthood
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that maternal exposure to BPA has subtle and qualitatively different effects on allergic inflammation, which are critically dependent upon route of allergen sensitization and sex and did not lead to significant differences in overall airway responsiveness, suggesting that early life exposure toBPA does not exacerbate allergic inflammation into adulthood.
Journal ArticleDOI
The potential of mesenchymal stem cell therapy for chronic lung disease.
TL;DR: In clinical trials, MSC administration was safe, but associated with limited effects on clinical outcomes, and further studies are required to elucidate unresolved issues, including optimal MSC source and dose, route of administration, and frequency (single vs. multiple-dose regimens).

Dendritic cells and the control of immunity
TL;DR: Once a neglected cell type, dendritic cells can now be readily obtained in sufficient quantities to allow molecular and cell biological analysis and the realization that these cells are a powerful tool for manipulating the immune system is realized.

Lung volumes and forced ventilatory flows
TL;DR: Assessing the total lung capacity is indispensable in establishing a restrictive ventilatory defect or in diagnosing abnormal lung distensibility, as may occur in patients …
Journal ArticleDOI
Hay fever, hygiene, and household size.
TL;DR: A possible explanation forHay fever trends over time is suggested, as well as a recent increase in the prevalence of asthma2 and childhood eczema.
