Guide for the Design and Construction of Externally Bonded FRP Systems for Strengthening Concrete Structures

TLDR
The Emerging Technology Series as mentioned in this paper is a series of information and recommendations based on available test data, technical reports, limited experience with field applications, and the opinions of committee members, with a focus on the development and appropriate use of new and emerging technologies.
Abstract
*Co-chairs of the subcommittee that prepared this document. Note: The committee acknowledges the contribution of associate member Paul Kelley. ACI encourages the development and appropriate use of new and emerging technologies through the publication of the Emerging Technology Series. This series presents information and recommendations based on available test data, technical reports, limited experience with field applications, and the opinions of committee members. The presented information and recommendations, and their basis, may be less fully developed and tested than those for more mature technologies. This report identifies areas in which information is believed to be less fully developed, and describes research needs. The professional using this document should understand the limitations of this document and exercise judgment as to the appropriate application of this emerging technology.

Probabilistic assessment of FRP-confined reinforced concrete columns

TL;DR: In this article, a reliability study on reinforced concrete (RC) columns retrofitted by Fibre Reinforced Polymers (FRP) confinement is presented, where variability of the compressive resistance of FRP-confined RC columns considering uncertainty in the model error, material properties, section dimensions, FRP strain efficiency factor and minimum load eccentricity as well as any existing correlation among random variables was studied.

A probabilistic strategy for seismic assessment and FRP retrofitting of existing bridges

TL;DR: In this article, a probabilistic framework is proposed to evaluate existing road and railway bridges after an earthquake by means of analytical fragility curves and visual inspections, which is applied on a reinforced concrete bridge case study, and the main aim is to provide useful information to public authorities in order to decide whether or not they should allow traffic over the bridge and whether to repair immediately earthquake damaged bridges.

Shear strengthening of RC deep beams with cement-based composites

TL;DR: In this article, the authors compared the effectiveness of two types of cement-based composite systems for strengthening reinforced concrete (RC) deep beams compared to an epoxy-based carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) system.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of fiber parameters and concrete strength on shear behavior of strengthened RC beams

TL;DR: In this article, the performance of reinforced concrete (RC) beams strengthened in shear was investigated and experimental results showed that externally bonded CFRP wraps enhanced the shear strength of beams significantly and that inclined CFRP configuration is more effective than vertical ones.
Journal ArticleDOI

An Experimental Study to the Influence of Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) Confinement on Beams Subjected to Bending and Shear

TL;DR: In this paper, the combination of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) flexural and u-shaped shear strengthening in accordance with ACI 440 is studied to evaluate the enhancement in the capacity of the beam.

Theoretical stress strain model for confined concrete

TL;DR: In this paper, a stress-strain model for concrete subjected to uniaxial compressive loading and confined by transverse reinforcement is developed for concrete sections with either spiral or circular hoops, or rectangular hoops with or without supplementary cross ties.

Seismic Design and Retrofit of Bridges

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on designing adequate displacement and ductility capacity into new bridges, with less significance placed on strength, where a strength hierarchy is established in a bridge to ensure that damage is controllable and occurs only where the designer intends.
