Physics basis and design of the ITER plasma-facing components

TLDR
The ITER PFC design has now reached a rather mature stage following the 2007 ITER Design Review as discussed by the authors, and the key elements of the design, reviews the physics drivers, essentially thermal load specifications, which have defined the concept and discusses a selection of material and design issues.

The combined effects of magnetic asymmetry, assembly and manufacturing tolerances on the plasma heat load to the ITER first wall

TL;DR: In this paper, a probabilistic combination of individual penalty coefficients is presented to give a global penalty coefficient, which ranges from 1.37 to 2.44, depending on the first wall row and plasma phase.
Journal ArticleDOI

High power plasma interaction with tungsten grades in ITER relevant conditions

TL;DR: Experimental simulations of ITER-like transient events with relevant surface heat load parameters (energy density up to 1.1 MJ/m2 and the pulse duration of 0.25 ms) as well as particle loads (varied in wide range from 1023 to 1027 ion/m 2 s) were carried out with a quasistationary plasma accelerator QSPA Kh-50.

Velocity shear, turbulent saturation, and steep plasma gradients in the scrape-off layer of inner-wall limited tokamaks

TL;DR: In this article, the authors studied the narrow power decay-length of the scrape-off layer (SOL) of inner-wall limited (IWL) discharges in tokamaks using 3D, flux-driven, global two-fluid turbulence simulations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Approaching the radiating X-point in SOLPS-ITER modeling of ASDEX Upgrade H-mode discharges

TL;DR: In this article, the ASDEX upgrade (AUG) experimental trend of reaching the radiating X-point with nitrogen seeding is reproduced by SOLPS-ITER code modeling.

Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluctuations and transport in the TCV scrape-off layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the particle and radial flux density statistics in the scrape-off layer of TCV plasmas and direct comparison with two-dimensional interchange turbulence simulations at the outer midplane.

Status and physics basis of the ITER divertor

TL;DR: The ITER divertor design is the culmination of years of physics and engineering effort, building confidence that this critical component will satisfy the requirements and meet the challenge of burning plasma operation as discussed by the authors.
