Physics basis and design of the ITER plasma-facing components

TLDR
The ITER PFC design has now reached a rather mature stage following the 2007 ITER Design Review as discussed by the authors, and the key elements of the design, reviews the physics drivers, essentially thermal load specifications, which have defined the concept and discusses a selection of material and design issues.

Preparation and characterization of potassium doped tungsten

TL;DR: In this paper, fine-grained micro-potassium doped tungsten samples were sintered by spark-plasma-sintering (SPS) method using Tungsten/potassium mixed powder.

WallDYN simulations of material migration and fuel retention in ITER low power H plasmas and high power neon-seeded DT plasmas

TL;DR: In this article, the 2D SOLPS numerical grid does not extend all the way to the wall surfaces so that an extrapolation of the plasma background is required and is performed using a second simulation stage in which the far scrape-off layer (SOL) region is numerically gridded and plasma transport is solved on the extended grid using the 1D simplified Braginski code.

Stress-induced hydrogen self-trapping in tungsten

TL;DR: In this paper, molecular dynamics simulations of hydrogen atoms in tungsten are presented, which reveal formation of platelet-like structures of self-trapped hydrogen induced by stresses.
Journal ArticleDOI

Intermittent transport across the scrape-off layer: latest results from ASDEX Upgrade

TL;DR: In this article, the authors report the results of turbulence and transport studies in the ASDEX Upgrade scrape-off layer (SOL) and study the dissimilarity between the plasma and the floating potential fluctuations by gyrofluid simulations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Behaviour of tungsten alloy with iron and nickel under repeated high temperature plasma pulses

TL;DR: In this article, the structure and properties of a dual phase tungsten (W) alloy with either 3 % or 5 % of an added mixture of Fe and Ni were investigated after irradiation with powerful deuterium plasma pulses.

Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.

Fluctuations and transport in the TCV scrape-off layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the particle and radial flux density statistics in the scrape-off layer of TCV plasmas and direct comparison with two-dimensional interchange turbulence simulations at the outer midplane.

Status and physics basis of the ITER divertor

TL;DR: The ITER divertor design is the culmination of years of physics and engineering effort, building confidence that this critical component will satisfy the requirements and meet the challenge of burning plasma operation as discussed by the authors.
