Physics basis and design of the ITER plasma-facing components

TLDR
The ITER PFC design has now reached a rather mature stage following the 2007 ITER Design Review as discussed by the authors, and the key elements of the design, reviews the physics drivers, essentially thermal load specifications, which have defined the concept and discusses a selection of material and design issues.

Iterative training set refinement enables reactive molecular dynamics via machine learned forces

TL;DR: This work has implemented a refinement protocol that corrects the low extrapolation capabilities of neural networks by iteratively checking and improving the molecular dynamic simulations of reactive self-sputtering from a beryllium surface.

Plasma Heat-Flux Dispersal for ACT1 Divertor Configurations

TL;DR: In this article, simulations of the heat flux on plasma-facing components from core exhaust plasma are reported for two possible ACT1 divertor configurations, one configuration uses divertor plates strongly and the other does not.
Journal ArticleDOI

Evaluation of explosive sublimation as the mechanism of nanosecond laser ablation of tungsten under vacuum conditions

TL;DR: In this article, a non-equilibrium mechanism for nanosecond laser ablation is suggested, and its predictions are compared to the results of W experiments performed under vacuum conditions, and special considerations were taken into account for the expansion of plasma into a vacuum.
Journal ArticleDOI

Total and partial electron impact ionization cross sections of fusion-relevant diatomic molecules

TL;DR: An empirical scheme to estimate partial cross sections from the total ones based on reaction energetics and empirical threshold laws is discussed and its accuracy is explored by assessing available experimental data on total and partial EICSs.

Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.

Fluctuations and transport in the TCV scrape-off layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the particle and radial flux density statistics in the scrape-off layer of TCV plasmas and direct comparison with two-dimensional interchange turbulence simulations at the outer midplane.

Status and physics basis of the ITER divertor

TL;DR: The ITER divertor design is the culmination of years of physics and engineering effort, building confidence that this critical component will satisfy the requirements and meet the challenge of burning plasma operation as discussed by the authors.
