Physics basis and design of the ITER plasma-facing components

TLDR
The ITER PFC design has now reached a rather mature stage following the 2007 ITER Design Review as discussed by the authors, and the key elements of the design, reviews the physics drivers, essentially thermal load specifications, which have defined the concept and discusses a selection of material and design issues.

Non-linear simulations of the TCV Scrape-Off Layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the mechanisms leading to the heat deposition onto the first wall in the Scrape-Off Layer (SOL), and performed dedicated numerical non-linear simulations of the SOL plasma dynamics of a TCV discharge using the GBS code.
Journal ArticleDOI

Impurity seeding for suppression of the near Scrape-Off Layer heat flux feature in tokamak limited plasmas

TL;DR: Nespoli et al. as mentioned in this paper proposed a technique for the mitigation and suppression of the near-SOL heat flux feature by impurity seeding, and first successful experimental results from the TCV tokamak are presented and discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Suppression of cavitation in melted tungsten by doping with lanthanum oxide

TL;DR: In this paper, the melting and boiling behavior of pure tungsten and 1 wt% lanthanum-oxide-doped Tungsten (WL10) is investigated, focusing on the material selection with respect to material loss induced by cavitation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Comparison of scrape-off layer transport in inner and outer wall limited JET plasmas

TL;DR: In this paper, the JET scrape-off layer has been characterized with a reciprocating probe in inner wall, IW, and outer wall, OW, limited plasmas, and the striking differences observed between IW and OW limited Plasmas on the power e-folding length, parallel flow, turbulent transport as well as the characteristics of the fluctuations support the existence of a poloidally localized region of enhanced radial transport near the outboard midplane.

Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.

Fluctuations and transport in the TCV scrape-off layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the particle and radial flux density statistics in the scrape-off layer of TCV plasmas and direct comparison with two-dimensional interchange turbulence simulations at the outer midplane.

Status and physics basis of the ITER divertor

TL;DR: The ITER divertor design is the culmination of years of physics and engineering effort, building confidence that this critical component will satisfy the requirements and meet the challenge of burning plasma operation as discussed by the authors.
