Physics basis and design of the ITER plasma-facing components

TLDR
The ITER PFC design has now reached a rather mature stage following the 2007 ITER Design Review as discussed by the authors, and the key elements of the design, reviews the physics drivers, essentially thermal load specifications, which have defined the concept and discusses a selection of material and design issues.

Plasma–Surface Interactions Under High Heat and Particle Fluxes

TL;DR: In this article, a linear plasma generator is used to reproduce the expected plasma conditions and allow plasma-surface interactions studies under those very harsh conditions, where the ion energies on the divertor surfaces of a fusion device are comparable to those used in various plasma-assited deposition and etching techniques, the ion and energy fluxes are up to four orders of magnitude higher.

Heat flux decay length during RF power operation in the Tore Supra tokamak

TL;DR: In this paper, the Tore Supra (TS) tokamak was used to evaluate the power flowing in the scrape-off layer (SOL), and the power profile showed a narrow component near the last closed flux surface and a wide component in the rest of the SOL.

Damage of target edges in brush-like geometry in the course of ELM-like plasma pulses in QSPA Kh-50

TL;DR: Castellated edges of macro-brush armour elements of ITER divertor can be a source of molten/solid dust particles which are injected into the plasma The targets that combined in brush-like geometry have been irradiated under different inclination angles in QSPA Kh-50 The cubic brushes element has typical size of 1.cm as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasma exposure of different tungsten grades with plasma accelerators under ITER-relevant conditions

TL;DR: In this paper, the results of tungsten irradiation experiments performed with three plasma facilities: the QSPA Kh-50 quasi-steady-state plasma accelerator, the PPA pulsed plasma gun and the magneto-plasma compressor are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Plasma radiation dynamics with the upgraded Absolute Extreme Ultraviolet tomographical system in the Tokamak à Configuration Variable.

TL;DR: An upgraded version of a tomographical system which is built up from Absolute Extreme Ultraviolet-type (AXUV) detectors and has been installed on the Tokamak à Configuration Variable (TCV) is introduced, and the coupling between core plasma radiation and plasma-wall interaction is revealed.

Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluctuations and transport in the TCV scrape-off layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the particle and radial flux density statistics in the scrape-off layer of TCV plasmas and direct comparison with two-dimensional interchange turbulence simulations at the outer midplane.
Journal ArticleDOI

Status and physics basis of the ITER divertor

TL;DR: The ITER divertor design is the culmination of years of physics and engineering effort, building confidence that this critical component will satisfy the requirements and meet the challenge of burning plasma operation as discussed by the authors.
