Physics basis and design of the ITER plasma-facing components

TLDR
The ITER PFC design has now reached a rather mature stage following the 2007 ITER Design Review as discussed by the authors, and the key elements of the design, reviews the physics drivers, essentially thermal load specifications, which have defined the concept and discusses a selection of material and design issues.

Studying tungsten under the cyclic action of a plasma gun jet

TL;DR: In this article, the cyclic action of a plasma gun jet was studied on the surface of tungsten elements intended for the ITER divertor, and the results revealed significant changes in both the structure and morphology of a surface layer.
Journal ArticleDOI

Dependence of multifractal analysis parameters on the darkness of a processed image

TL;DR: In this paper , four specimens of pure tungsten, which have been irradiated with a high-temperature plasma with 20, 40, 60, and 80 pulses, respectively, are considered.
Journal ArticleDOI

Calibration of a versatile multi-energy soft x-ray diagnostic for WEST long pulse plasmas.

TL;DR: A compact multi-energy soft x-ray diagnostic is being installed on the W Environment in Steady-state Tokamak (WEST), which was designed and built to test ITER-like tungsten plasma facing components in a long pulse scenario.
Journal ArticleDOI

Some thoughts about beryllium resources, impurities in it and necessity of its detritiation after irradiation

TL;DR: In this article, the authors proposed a method to estimate the number of users who will be served by the service of a service provider in order to evaluate the performance of the service provider.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effects of transient heating events on beryllium plasma-facing materials in a steady-state plasma environment

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors have integrated laser systems into the existing PFC research program in PISCES, a laboratory facility capable of reproducing plasma-material interactions expected during normal operation of large tokamaks.

Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluctuations and transport in the TCV scrape-off layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the particle and radial flux density statistics in the scrape-off layer of TCV plasmas and direct comparison with two-dimensional interchange turbulence simulations at the outer midplane.
Journal ArticleDOI

Status and physics basis of the ITER divertor

TL;DR: The ITER divertor design is the culmination of years of physics and engineering effort, building confidence that this critical component will satisfy the requirements and meet the challenge of burning plasma operation as discussed by the authors.
