Physics basis and design of the ITER plasma-facing components

TLDR
The ITER PFC design has now reached a rather mature stage following the 2007 ITER Design Review as discussed by the authors, and the key elements of the design, reviews the physics drivers, essentially thermal load specifications, which have defined the concept and discusses a selection of material and design issues.

Final case for a stainless steel diagnostic first wall on ITER

TL;DR: In 2010, the ITER Organization (IO) proposed to eliminate the beryllium armour on the plasma-facing surface of the diagnostic port plugs and instead to use bare stainless steel (SS), simplifying the design and providing significant cost reduction as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Operational characteristics of the superconducting high flux plasma generator Magnum-PSI

TL;DR: The Magnum-PSI linear device as discussed by the authors has achieved state-of-the-art performance with a superconducting magnet, enabling steady-state magnetic fields up to 2.5 T for tens of seconds by using conventional electromagnets.

Scrape-Off Layer physics in limited plasmas in TCV

TL;DR: In this article, a method for mitigation and suppression of the near and far Scrape-Off Layer (SOL) heat fluxes through impurity seeding is proposed, and first experimental evidences are presented.
Journal ArticleDOI

Electron impact ionization cross sections of beryllium-tungsten clusters

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported calculated electron impact ionization cross sections (EICSs) using the Deutsch-mark (DM) and the binary-encounter-Bethe (BEB) formalisms.

Transport-driven Scrape-Off-Layer flows and the boundary conditions imposed at the magnetic separatrix in a tokamak plasma

TL;DR: In this paper, topology-dependent flow boundary conditions on the confined plasma were investigated in the low and high-field side scrape-off-layer (SOL) regions in Alcator C-Mod.
Journal ArticleDOI

Fluctuations and transport in the TCV scrape-off layer

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated the particle and radial flux density statistics in the scrape-off layer of TCV plasmas and direct comparison with two-dimensional interchange turbulence simulations at the outer midplane.
Journal ArticleDOI

Status and physics basis of the ITER divertor

TL;DR: The ITER divertor design is the culmination of years of physics and engineering effort, building confidence that this critical component will satisfy the requirements and meet the challenge of burning plasma operation as discussed by the authors.
