TLDR
In this article, a review examines physico-chemical requirements necessary to achieve stimuli-responsiveness in heterogeneous polymer networks as well as discusses recent developments and future trends while individual structural components of polymeric networks are responsible for localized chainresponsiveness, desirable spatial and energetic network properties are necessary for collective and orchestrated responsiveness to external or internal stimuli.

Stimuli-Responsive Polymer Film that Autonomously Translates a Molecular Detection Event into a Macroscopic Change in Its Optical Properties via a Continuous, Thiol-Mediated Self-Propagating Reaction

TL;DR: A chemically responsive polymer film that is capable of detecting low levels of a specific applied molecular signal (thiol) and subsequently initiating a self-propagating reaction within the material that converts the nonfluorescent film into a globally fluorescent material is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

Molecular Imaging and Analysis of Branching Topology in Polyacrylates by Atomic Force Microscopy

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors reported the analysis of branching in linear acrylate-based macromolecules synthesized via free radical polymerization (FRP) and atom transfer radical polymerisation (ATRP).

Photo- and Metallo-responsive N-Alkyl α-Bisimines as Orthogonally Addressable Main-Chain Functional Groups in Metathesis Polymers

TL;DR: Mild imine-directed CH activation by Pd(OAc)2 is demonstrated as a new single-chain nanoparticle (SCNP) folding process, enabling a controlled atom- and step-economic SCNP synthesis.
Journal ArticleDOI

Advances in design and biomedical application of hierarchical polymer brushes

TL;DR: This review systematically summarizes the recent developments in the construction and biological application of hierarchical polymer brushes, highlighting the rational design of numerous platforms to address various aspects of complex biological scenarios.

How useful is SBF in predicting in vivo bone bioactivity

TL;DR: Examination of apatite formation on a material in SBF is useful for predicting the in vivo bone bioactivity of a material, and the number of animals used in and the duration of animal experiments can be reduced remarkably by using this method.
Journal ArticleDOI

Conjugated polymer-based chemical sensors.

TL;DR: When considering new sensory technologies one should look to nature for guidance, as living organisms have developed the ultimate chemical sensors.

Photomechanics: directed bending of a polymer film by light.

TL;DR: It is shown that a single film of a liquid-crystal network containing an azobenzene chromophore can be repeatedly and precisely bent along any chosen direction by using linearly polarized light.
