TLDR
In this article, a review examines physico-chemical requirements necessary to achieve stimuli-responsiveness in heterogeneous polymer networks as well as discusses recent developments and future trends while individual structural components of polymeric networks are responsible for localized chainresponsiveness, desirable spatial and energetic network properties are necessary for collective and orchestrated responsiveness to external or internal stimuli.

Active composites based on shape memory polymers: overview, fabrication methods, applications, and future prospects

TL;DR: This review is particularly unique in that it included discussions on the various fabrication techniques for SMP composites including their merits and demerits which, to the best of the knowledge, is the first review to include such discussion, thus making it a complete reference material.

Stimuli-responsive polypeptide materials prepared by ring-opening polymerization of α-amino acidN-carboxyanhydrides

TL;DR: This article summarizes the most recent progresses in the development of stimuli-responsive polypeptide materials prepared via ring-opening polymerization of α-amino acid N-carboxyanhydrides and discusses the design, synthesis and structure-property correlation of emerging materials including thermo- responsive, redox-responsive, photo-responsive and biomolecule responsive polyPEptides.

CO2-triggered fluorescence “turn-on” response of perylene diimide-containing poly(N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate)

TL;DR: In this paper, a fluorophore-polymer conjugate, PBI-PDMAEMA, consisting of two arms of CO2-responsive N,N-dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate polymer and a center perylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid bisimide (PBI) fluorophores, has been synthesized via atom transfer radical polymerization of N, N −dimethyl methaclate from the N, n −bis{2-[2]-(2-bromo

Modulation of the Thermoresponsive Behavior of Poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) via Cyclodextrin Host/Guest Interactions

TL;DR: In this article, the modulation of the cloud point of aqueous poly(N,N-diethylacrylamide) solutions via the formation of supramolecular cyclodextrin complexes with hydrophobic end groups, synthesized via RAFT polymerization, is described.
Journal ArticleDOI

A biodegradable thermosensitive hydrogel with tuneable properties for mimicking three-dimensional microenvironments of stem cells

TL;DR: The results confirm that the CS-g-PNIPAAm with manipulated properties could provide a potential 3D microenvironment for stem cell culture, differentiation and in vivo injection.

How useful is SBF in predicting in vivo bone bioactivity

TL;DR: Examination of apatite formation on a material in SBF is useful for predicting the in vivo bone bioactivity of a material, and the number of animals used in and the duration of animal experiments can be reduced remarkably by using this method.

Conjugated polymer-based chemical sensors.

TL;DR: When considering new sensory technologies one should look to nature for guidance, as living organisms have developed the ultimate chemical sensors.

Photomechanics: directed bending of a polymer film by light.

TL;DR: It is shown that a single film of a liquid-crystal network containing an azobenzene chromophore can be repeatedly and precisely bent along any chosen direction by using linearly polarized light.
