TLDR
This work has used restriction isotyping (restriction enzyme isoform genotyping) for rapid typing of common apolipoprotein E isoforms (E2, E3, E4) and distinguished each of the isoforms by a unique combination of HhaI fragment sizes that enabled unambiguous typing of all homozygotic and heterozygotic combinations.

Apolipoprotein E: high-avidity binding to beta-amyloid and increased frequency of type 4 allele in late-onset familial Alzheimer disease.

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that there was a highly significant association of apolipoprotein E type 4 allele (APOE-epsilon 4) and late-onset familial Alzheimer disease.

Oxidative damage is the earliest event in Alzheimer disease.

TL;DR: The observations indicate that increased oxidative damage is an early event in AD that decreases with disease progression and lesion formation and suggest that AD is associated with compensatory changes that reduce damage from reactive oxygen.

TL;DR: The Alzheimer Disease Genetics Consortium performed a genome-wide association study of late-onset Alzheimer disease using a three-stage design consisting of a discovery stage (stage 1), two replication stages (stages 2 and 3), and both joint analysis and meta-analysis approaches were used.

Enzymatic amplification of beta-globin genomic sequences and restriction site analysis for diagnosis of sickle cell anemia.

TL;DR: Two new methods were used to establish a rapid and highly sensitive prenatal diagnostic test for sickle cell anemia, using primer-mediated enzymatic amplification of specific beta-globin target sequences in genomic DNA, resulting in the exponential increase of target DNA copies.

Apolipoprotein E: cholesterol transport protein with expanding role in cell biology.

TL;DR: Apolipoprotein E is a plasma protein that serves as a ligand for low density lipoprotein receptors and, through its interaction with these receptors, participates in the transport of cholesterol and other lipids among various cells of the body.

Apolipoprotein E polymorphism and atherosclerosis.

TL;DR: The relationship between the epsilon 2 allele and type III hyperlipoproteinemia provides a valuable model for the study of complex genetic interactions in the pathogenesis of hyperlipidemia and atherosclerosis.
