What’s normal? Oligosaccharide concentrations and profiles in milk produced by healthy women vary geographically

TLDR
The hypothesis that normal HMO concentrations and profiles vary geographically, even in healthy women is supported and targeted genomic analyses are required to determine whether these differences are due at least in part to genetic variation.

The association of human milk oligosaccharides with glucose metabolism in overweight and obese pregnant women

TL;DR: The sialylated HMOs 3'SL and3'SLN was more predictive of future GDM diagnoses than was fasting glucose in early pregnancy; LDFT was associated with fasting insulin and HOMA-index.

Perspective: Human Milk Oligosaccharides: Fuel for Childhood Obesity Prevention?

TL;DR: Although it seems that HMOs might have a role in infant growth and adiposity, there is not enough consistent evidence to understand their potential role in obesity prevention.

Capillary Electrophoresis Analysis of Bovine Milk Oligosaccharides Permits an Assessment of the Influence of Diet and the Discovery of Nine Abundant Sulfated Analogues.

TL;DR: To test the hypothesis that the bovine diet may lead to changes in relative BMO abundances, a rapid capillary electrophoresis (CE)-based work flow was developed to profile the BMOs extracted from the milk of cows fed distinctly different diets.

Controlling the false discovery rate: a practical and powerful approach to multiple testing

TL;DR: In this paper, a different approach to problems of multiple significance testing is presented, which calls for controlling the expected proportion of falsely rejected hypotheses -the false discovery rate, which is equivalent to the FWER when all hypotheses are true but is smaller otherwise.

Metagenes and molecular pattern discovery using matrix factorization.

TL;DR: Nonnegative matrix factorization is described, an algorithm based on decomposition by parts that can reduce the dimension of expression data from thousands of genes to a handful of metagenes, and found less sensitive to a priori selection of genes or initial conditions and able to detect alternative or context-dependent patterns of gene expression in complex biological systems.
