TL;DR: Overall, A. baumannii L2 would appear to be a potent Cr(VI)-tolerant candidate for the bioremediation of chromium ( VI)-contaminated wastewater effluent.
Abstract: Bioreduction of the very toxic hexavalent chromium ion [Cr(VI)] to the non-toxic trivalent chromium ion [Cr(III)] is a key remediation process in chromium-contaminated sites. In this study, we investigated the bioreduction of Cr(VI) by Pseudomonas stutzeri L1 and Acinetobacter baumannii L2. The optimum pH (5–10), temperature (27, 37 and 60 °C) and initial chromium Cr(VI) concentration (100–1000 mg L−1) for Cr(VI) reduction by strains L1 and L2 were determined using the diphenylcarbazide method. In the presence of L1 and L2, the bioreduction rate of Cr(VI) was 40–97 and 84–99%, respectively. The bioreduction of Cr(VI) by L2 was higher, reaching up to 84%—than that by L1. The results showed that strain L2 was able to survive even if exposed to 1000 mg L−1 of Cr(VI) and that this tolerance to the effects of Cr(VI) was linked to the activity of soluble enzyme fractions. Overall, A. baumannii L2 would appear to be a potent Cr(VI)-tolerant candidate for the bioremediation of chromium (VI)-contaminated wastewater effluent.

TL;DR: In this paper, an univariate Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) model is used for forecasting the sugarcane area, production and productivity of Tamilnadu through fitting of univariate ARIMA models.
Abstract: This paper attempts forecasting the sugarcane area, production and productivity of Tamilnadu through fitting of univariate Auto Regressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) models. The data on sugarcane area, production and productivity collected from 1950–2007 has been used for present study. ARIMA (1, 1, 1) model is found suitable for sugarcane area and productivity. ARIMA (2, 1, 2) is found appropriate for modeling sugarcane production. The performances of models are validated by comparing with actual values. Using the models developed, forecast values for sugarcane area, production and productivity are developed for subsequent years.

TL;DR: The in vitro cytotoxicity of complexes 1-3 against A549 and HepG2 cell lines was assayed, and the new complexes exhibited higher cytotoxic activity with lower IC(50) values indicating their efficiency in killing the cancer cells even at very low concentrations.
Abstract: New complexes, [Ni(HL)(PPh3)]Cl (1), [Pd(L)(PPh3)](2), and [Pd(L)(AsPh3)](3), were synthesized from the reactions of 4-chloro-5-methyl-salicylaldehyde thiosemicarbazone [H2L] with [NiCl2(PPh3)2], [PdCl2(PPh3)2] and [PdCl2(AsPh3)2]. They were characterized by IR, electronic, 1H-NMR spectral data. Further, the structures of the complexes have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. While the thiosemicarbazone coordinated as binegative tridentate (ONS) in complexes 2 and 3, it is coordinated as mono negative tridentate (ONS) in 1. The interactions of the new complexes with calf thymus DNA was examined by absorption and emission spectra, and viscosity measurements. Moreover, the antioxidant properties of the new complexes have also been tested against DPPH radical in which complex 1 exhibited better activity than that of the other two complexes 2 and 3. The in vitro cytotoxicity of complexes 1–3 against A549 and HepG2 cell lines was assayed, and the new complexes exhibited higher cytotoxic activity with lower IC50 values indicating their efficiency in killing the cancer cells even at very low concentrations.

TL;DR: Three new nickel(II) thiosemicarbazone complexes have been synthesized and characterized by analytical, spectral, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies and showed the accumulation of the complexes in tumor cells depended on the nature of the ligand attached to the nickel ion.
Abstract: Three new nickel(II) thiosemicarbazone complexes have been synthesized and characterized by analytical, spectral, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. In complex 1, the ligand 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehydethiosemicarbazone coordinated as a monobasic tridentate donor, whereas in complexes 2 and 3, the ligands salicylaldehyde-4(N)-ethylthiosemicarbazone and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde-4(N)-ethylthiosemicarbazone coordinated as a dibasic tridentate donor. The DNA binding ability of the complexes in calf thymus DNA was explored by absorption and emission titration experiments. The antioxidant property of the new complexes was evaluated to test their free-radical scavenging ability. In vitro cytotoxicity assays were performed for the new complexes in A549 and HepG2 cell lines. The new compounds overcome cisplatin resistance in the A549 cell line and they were also active in the HepG2 cell line. The cellular uptake study showed the accumulation of the complexes in tumor cells depended on the nature of the ligand attached to the nickel ion.
