TL;DR: Profiles of amino acids of total seed proteins detected in the present study revealed that levels of valine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, isoleucine, and histidine of all the seven wild legume seed samples were found to be higher than FAO/WHO (1991) requirement pattern.
Abstract: Seeds from seven species of wild legumes of the South India were analyzed for proximate composition, mineral profiles, amino acid profiles of total seed protein, in vitro protein digestibility, and certain antinutritional factors to assess their potential as alternative sources of protein crops. The major findings of the study were as follows: crude protein ranged from 20.3 to 35.0%, crude lipid 3.1–9.6%, crude fiber 5.9–12.1%, ash 2.7–5.1%, and carbohydrates 49.2–61.8%. Minerals viz., sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, copper, zinc, and manganese occurred in the range 42.9–135.9, 556.2–1639.5, 304.5–572.2, 174.9–686.7, 98.4–947.8, 3.6–16.4, 0.2–1.2, 2.0–30.0, and 1.0–3.9 mg/100 g seed flour, respectively. Profiles of amino acids of total seed proteins detected in the present study revealed that levels of valine, phenylalanine, tyrosine, isoleucine, and histidine of all the seven wild legume seed samples, threonine of Canavalia ensiformis and C. gladiata, leucine of Mucuna pruriens var. pruriens, and lysine of Cassia floribunda and C. obtusifolia were found to be higher than FAO/WHO (1991) requirement pattern. The in vitro protein digestibility of the legumes under study ranged from 63.39 to 83.32%. Antinutritional factors such as total free phenolics ranged from 0.41 to 5.96%, tannins from 0.04 to 0.60%, L-DOPA from 1.34 to 8.37% and trypsin inhibitor activity from 13.48 to 65.43 TIU/mg protein. The detected antinutritional factors probably have little nutritional significance if the seeds are properly processed.

TL;DR: An effort to bring together text mining tool developers and database biocurators to test the utility and usability of tools and indicates that some of the systems were able to improve efficiency of curation by speeding up the curation task significantly and improve annotation accuracy when compared with the performance on the manually curated set.
Abstract: In many databases, biocuration primarily involves literature curation, which usually involves retrieving relevant articles, extracting information that will translate into annotations and identifying new incoming literature. As the volume of biological literature increases, the use of text mining to assist in biocuration becomes increasingly relevant. A number of groups have developed tools for text mining from a computer science/linguistics perspective, and there are many initiatives to curate some aspect of biology from the literature. Some biocuration efforts already make use of a text mining tool, but there have not been many broad-based systematic efforts to study which aspects of a text mining tool contribute to its usefulness for a curation task. Here, we report on an effort to bring together text mining tool developers and database biocurators to test the utility and usability of tools. Six text mining systems presenting diverse biocuration tasks participated in a formal evaluation, and appropriate biocurators were recruited for testing. The performance results from this evaluation indicate that some of the systems were able to improve efficiency of curation by speeding up the curation task significantly (∼1.7- to 2.5-fold) over manual curation. In addition, some of the systems were able to improve annotation accuracy when compared with the performance on the manually curated set. In terms of inter-annotator agreement, the factors that contributed to significant differences for some of the systems included the expertise of the biocurator on the given curation task, the inherent difficulty of the curation and attention to annotation guidelines. After the task, annotators were asked to complete a survey to help identify strengths and weaknesses of the various systems. The analysis of this survey highlights how important task completion is to the biocurators’ overall experience of a system, regardless of the system’s high score on design, learnability and usability. In addition, strategies to refine the annotation guidelines and systems documentation, to adapt the tools to the needs and query types the end user might have and to evaluate performance in terms of efficiency, user interface, result export and traditional evaluation metrics have been analyzed during this task. This analysis will help to plan for a more intense study in BioCreative IV.

TL;DR: In this paper, a facile synthesis of MnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles by solution assisted combustion synthesis was demonstrated, and the synthesized materials were characterized by XRD, FTIR, FE-SEM to confirm the crystal structure and surface morphology.
Abstract: Growing concentration of toxic gases in the atmosphere presents a great challenge in the identification of suitable and novel gas sensing materials, with good selectivity at room temperature. This work demonstrates a facile synthesis of MnFe 2 O 4 nanoparticles by solution assisted combustion synthesis. The synthesized materials are characterized by XRD, FTIR, FE-SEM to confirm the crystal structure and surface morphology. The ferromagnetic behavior of prepared MnFe 2 O 4 at room temperature was revealed through VSM analysis. The N 2 adsorption–desorption isotherm and BET surface area analysis confirms the mesoporous nature with the surface area of 33 m 2 g −1 . The room temperature sensing behavior of MnFe 2 O 4 is studied using impedometric technique for analyzing ammonia gas. The prepared MnFe 2 O 4 is robust and shows a sensitivity of 100% for increasing concentration of ammonia vapor. The conductivity increased in the order of 10 2 magnitudes while increasing ammonia concentration. It shows the high selectivity of 83.5% for 10 ppm towards ammonia over other toxic gases like chloroform, etc. The room temperature (303 K) operation, with high sensitivity, selectivity, together with the low cost suggests suitability of developing a new, high power cost-effective ammonia sensor.
