TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of fascioliasis on the onset of puberty in 13 Friesian heifers was investigated, and the results showed that there was an abnormally low concentration of progesterone (P4) probably due to underdeveloped or absent corpora lutea.

TL;DR: The validated method was applied to 148 samples collected over two years in 19 dairy farms from Galicia (NW Spain), with DON, mycophenolic acid and ZEA plus metabolites were the most abundant mycotoxins.
Abstract: The first objective of this study was the validation of an efficient multi-analyte method for the simultaneous detection and quantification of mycotoxins in maize silage, by reverse-phase liquid chromatography coupled with electrospray ionisation triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (LC-HESI-MS/MS). A simple liquid/solid extraction was performed either with clean-up on Mycospin 400 columns or without any clean-up. Almost all the target mycotoxins showed highly-suppressed signals in the presence of a matrix, emphasising the need to quantitate mycotoxins by means of matrix-matched calibrations. An alternative validation method based on ISO 11843 and on a single factor balanced design was implemented. The achieved average recoveries from spiked samples at three levels ranged from 60% to 122% with relative standard deviations (rsd) below 11%. Limits of Detection (LODs) and Limits of Quantification (LOQs) were between 0.02–17.1 µg kg−1 and 0.06–57 µg kg−1. The calculated repeatability and within-lab rep...

TL;DR: Several experimental, computational and theoretical results devoted to turbulence jet noise are described in this paper, where the selected topics are combined and described from a single point of view, and the goal is to explore and discuss some of the possibilities and limitations of classical aeroacoustics methods.
Abstract: Several experimental, computational and theoretical results devoted to turbulence jet noise are described. All these results were obtained at CIAM in collaboration with the Boeing Company. The selected topics are combined and described from a single point of view. In spite of the many publications in the classical literature devoted to jet noise, many jet noise problems are not completely solved, and most current jet noise prediction methods are still highly empirical and rely heavily on an existing experimental data base. At the same time, many of the available experimental results are not fully reliable and some are even contradictory. The goal of this paper is, therefore, to explore and discuss some of the possibilities and limitations of classical aeroacoustics methods.

TL;DR: In this paper, the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and other hazardous organic chemicals in a recycled tyre playground surface (in an indoor restaurant of a shopping centre with limited ventilation) was investigated.
Abstract: The objective of this case study was to investigate the presence of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and other hazardous organic chemicals in a recycled tyre playground surface (in an indoor restaurant of a shopping centre with limited ventilation). This study also aimed at underlining both the volatilisation of these compounds in the vapour phase above the sample and the partial leaching of contaminants from the playground surface to the runoff and cleaning water put in contact with the sample. Playground samples were extracted with ethyl acetate using ultrasonic energy followed by GC-MS analysis. In addition, the same samples were analysed by HS-SPME to study the volatilisation and the transfer of those organic compounds. The analysis confirmed the presence of a large number of hazardous substances. Thus, 14 of the 16 studied PAHs were identified in the extracts (including the considered most toxic PAH, benzo[a]pyrene) and nine of them were also detected in the vapour phase. Besides, nine PAHs we...
