TL;DR: In this paper, a methodology based on solid phase microextraction (SPME) followed by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) was developed for the simultaneous analysis of 14 UV filters of different chemical nature in water.
Abstract: A methodology based on solid-phase-microextraction (SPME) followed by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (GC-MS/MS) has been developed for the simultaneous analysis of 14 UV filters of different chemical nature in water. The extraction parameters (the extraction mode and temperature, the fibre coating, and the addition of salt) were optimised by means of experimental designs in order to select the best extraction conditions. The final proposed conditions were 10 mL of water sample with 35% NaCl added, extracted in the headspace mode with a polyacrylate (PA) fibre at 100 °C for 20 minutes. The SPME-GC-MS/MS method was validated in terms of linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9937), accuracy and precision, obtaining LODs in the range of 0.068–12 ng L−1. The validated methodology was then applied to the analysis of different bathing water samples including sea, river, spa, swimming pool, and aquapark water, allowing the detection of 10 of the 14 target compounds; some of them were found at concentrations up to 692 ng mL−1.

TL;DR: The SLC25 family could be used for the development of novel points of attack for targeted cancer therapy as well as potential biomarkers for various cancers.
Abstract: The transfer of metabolites through the mitochondrial membranes is a vital process that is highly controlled and regulated by the inner membrane. A variety of metabolites, nucleotides, and cofactors are transported across the inner mitochondrial membrane (IMM) by a superfamily of membrane transporters which are known as the mitochondrial carrier family (MCF) or the solute carrier family 25 (SLC25 protein family). In humans, the MCF has 53 members encoded by nuclear genes. Members of the SLC25 family of transporters, which is the largest group of solute carriers, are also known as mitochondrial carriers (MCs). Because MCs are nuclear-coded proteins, they must be imported into the IMM. When compared with normal cells, the mitochondria of cancer cells exhibit significantly increased transmembrane potentials and a number of their transporters are altered. SLC25 members were identified as potential biomarkers for various cancers. The objective of this review is to summarize what is currently known about the involvement of mitochondrial SLC25 carriers in associated diseases. This review suggests that the SLC25 family could be used for the development of novel points of attack for targeted cancer therapy.

TL;DR: In this article, a universal algebraic equation for perturbed eigenvalues of the Kirchhoff theory of plate bending was derived for elliptic plates of a small eccentricity, and a dual procedure was developed to evaluate the sought for natural frequencies starting from those for a circular thin plate.

TL;DR: In this article, a model describing the kinetics of pore closure has been developed on the base of crystal plasticity and large strain theory for single-crystal nickel-base superalloy CMSX-4.
Abstract: Pore annihilation was investigated in the single-crystal nickel-base superalloy CMSX-4. HIP tests at 1288 °C/103 MPa were interrupted at different times, then the specimens were investigated by TEM, metallography and density measurements. The kinetics of pore annihilation was determined. The pore closure mechanism was identified as plastic deformation on the octahedral slip systems. A model describing the kinetics of pore closure has been developed on the base of crystal plasticity and large strain theory. Mechanical tests with the superalloy CMSX-4 and the Ru-containing superalloy VGM4 showed, that HIP significantly increases the fatigue life at low temperatures but has no effect on creep strength.
