TL;DR: In this article, the authors discuss the implications of CSR concerning cynical distancing, ethical sealing and the space for politics and critique in corporations and demonstrate how CSR discourses and practices serve to construct an idealized image of a socially, ecologically and ethically responsible corporate self.
Abstract: Corporate social responsibility has become an important topic for both academics and practitioners. CSR typically stands for corporate responses to ethical, environmental and social issues. Whilst extant research has predominately focused on CSR in relation to external stakeholders and taking a macro-institutional and/or functionalist perspective, we provide a critical engagement with the interactions between CSR, employees and management control within organizations. Qualitative data gathered at two management consultancy firms demonstrate how CSR discourses and practices serve to construct an idealized image of a socially, ecologically and ethically responsible corporate self. In this way, CSR works as a form of aspirational control that ties employees’ aspirational identities and ethical conscience to the organization. The article discusses the implications of CSR concerning cynical distancing, ethical sealing and the space for politics and critique in corporations.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors provide insight on the evolution and emergence of the supply chain management (SCM) concept and share conclusions about the future of SCM from the perspective of educators, researchers, and practitioners.
Abstract: SUMMARY This article provides insight on the evolution and emergence of the supply chain management(SCM) concept and shares conclusions about the future of SCM from the perspective of educators, researchers, and practitioners. Based on a survey of SCM educators, the article seeks to delimit the scope or domain of SCM and how the boundaries have changed and continue to change. This is done by contrasting four perspectives on SCM versus purchasing: traditionalist, relabeling, unionist, and intersectionist.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the association between public service motivation and the performance of Danish teachers using an objective outcome measure (the students' academic performance in their final examinations) and found that PSM is positively associated with examination marks.
Abstract: The literature expects public service motivation (PSM) to affect performance, but most of the existing studies of this relationship use subjective performance data and focus on output rather than outcome. This article investigates the association between PSM and the performance of Danish teachers using an objective outcome measure (the students’ academic performance in their final examinations). Combining survey data and administrative register data in a multilevel dataset, we are able to control very robustly for the specific characteristics of the students (n = 5,631), the schools (n = 85), and other teacher characteristics (n = 694) besides PSM. We find that PSM is positively associated with examination marks. The result indicates that PSM may be relevant for performance improvements.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a survey of information systems (IS) researchers in 18 European countries, focusing on the institutional and cognitive profile of the IS field in Europe, using the results of a survey.
Abstract: This paper reviews the institutional and cognitive profile of the information systems (IS) field in Europe, using the results of a survey of IS academics in 18 European countries. The emerging picture suggests that the study of IS in European academia is dispersed in small units with various names, which are hosted in various disciplines across the science/social science spectrum. Our survey confirms the widespread view that the IS field is concerned with the study of a wide range of themes, from developing technologies per se, to assessing the social impact of new information and communication technologies. Moreover, a variety of research perspectives and approaches is found to be pursued, drawing from both the positivist and interpretative epistemological traditions. Reflecting upon the survey findings, we argue that while the institutional dispersion is a weakness that requires remedying action, the cognitive diversity should not be considered as a characteristic of immaturity. In Europe, the diversity of themes and research perspectives probably manifests more fundamental differences of the socioeconomic context which gives rise to, and sustains, different types of IS research in different countries.
